Summary:

Processes and coordinates development application review under general supervision by the Community Development Director and/or the Planning Manager. Assists with building permit questions such as setbacks. Assists the general public and development community with answers to their questions regarding development and regulations in Berthoud. Presents to the Planning Commission and the Board of Trustees. Positive customer service to external and internal customers is key.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Responds to requests from citizens and developers regarding information on current land use applications and general development requirements.

Development review intake, process and manage development review applications.

Participate in the Historic Preservation Commission, Planning Commission and Town Board of Trustees meetings/ land use hearings.

Support for special projects as assigned, including code amendments, long-range and strategic planning projects, for example.

Oversee the daily activities of the Town’s Addressing, Architectural Compliance, Lot Diversity programs, for example.

Participate in the Town’s GIS database development.

Audit digitized files and digitize planning files.

Compliance audits for site-specific development projects and subdivisions inclusive of landscaping and amenity installation. Relay information back to site owner/operator and developers in a format that they will understand. Coordinate development compliance with the Compliance Division, Engineering and Planning.

Participate in regional planning efforts such as Northern Colorado Bike and Ped, transportation planning efforts, for example.

Basic understanding of land use and development principles.

Commitment to working on a team and collaboratively across divisions and departments.

Understanding of site planning and site inspection.

Ability to read and understand maps/plans.

Ability to interpret Codes and Regulations.

Ability to communicate complex concepts in simple terms.

Education:

Undergraduate degree in planning, or a closely related field including landscape design, urban design, for example is required.

Work Experience:

Prior experience managing projects is preferred.

Landscape design experience is required.

Certificates and Licenses:

Ability to obtain the American Institute of Certified Planners certification within three years of hire is preferred.

Valid Colorado Driver’s license
