Position InformationClassification TitleTemporary HourlyEmployment CategoryTemporaryIs this an Hourly position?YesWork Hours/Week10-15Overtime Eligible?YesPosition LocationFruita, CODoes this position qualify for hybrid or remote work?NoDescription of Work UnitThe Integrated Cropping System research program at the Western Colorado Research Center in Fruita is part of the Western Colorado Research Center, which includes sites located at Orchard Mesa in Grand Junction, Rogers Mesa near Hotchkiss, and Grand Valley located in Fruita.Search Contact [email protected] SummaryThe Research Field Technician will support various projects funded by the Colorado Department of Agriculture, Natural Resources Conservation Service, The Colorado Water Center, Colorado Water Conservation Board, and Trout Unlimited.PURPOSE OF POSITION :To provide assistance to WCRC -GV and its partners, in the evaluation of alfalfa, alfalfa+grass/legume mixtures and corn cultivars for deficit irrigation, forage sample collection, processing, soil sampling, water sample collection in lysimeters, irrigation and evapotranspiration data collection, crop yields, soil assessments, weed management, preliminary data analysis, equipment maintenance and other tasks associated with various research projects. RESPONSIBILITIES AND RELATIONSHIPS :The Research Field Technician will be supervised by Dr. Sri Pinnamaneni at the Western Colorado Research Center – Grand Valley ( WCRC -GV). Additional guidance for the position will be provided by WCRC -GV staff and farmer-stakeholders supporting the project. The position requires effective working relations with agricultural and environmental stakeholders.Position Minimum Qualifications
Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
Completed/pursuing a degree in Natural Resources Management, Biology, Soil and Crop Sciences, or closely related fields.
Willingness to collect samples/data in field experiments .
Expertise with basic spreadsheet data (i.e., MS Excel)
Willingness to learn to work with basic vendor-supplied programs and other data management software unique to field equipment.
Willingness to collaborate in a team environment on a multitude of tasks that may change and diversify weekly
Ability to lift 30 lbs
Preferred Qualifications
Previous work experience at research farms
Experience with data recording, handling sensors, and analysis
