For the health of our university community, the use of smoking, vaping or tobacco products is prohibited on CSU grounds or in buildings.Position SummaryThe Critical Care Services ( CCS ) which includes (Emergency, Urgent Care, Critical Care Unit) provides medical care for small animals and exotics on an emergency basis. As a CCS Supervisor at CSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital ( VTH ), you will oversee the small animal veterinary technical team (veterinary technicians, assistants, hourlies) within the Critical Care Services and partner with faculty. Due to the nature of the 24/7/365 service, the Critical Care Service will have multiple supervisors to help with the daily/night needs of the department to ensure that there is a go-to leader on most shifts. You will provide hands-on support (floor supervisor), technical expertise, and leadership to ensure the smooth operation of the Critical Care Services. The CCS Supervisor is committed to ensuring the highest quality of patient care is delivered with exceptional client service while maintaining focus on teaching. Additional responsibilities but not limited to:

Manages workflows and shift coordination with employees and doctors in an emergency environment that often has a sporadic caseload which can consist of facilitating non-urgent and urgent medical procedures/surgeries/patient care.

Mentors and coaches support team members and participates with their annual performance reviews.

Assisting with recruiting efforts and training programs for new team members.

This position entails managing and facilitating support team coverage (scheduling).

Acts as a point of contact for other services/departments that are in need of leadership guidance during shift (patient care wards, client services, facilities).

Assisting with client inquiries/concerns that might arise during their shift.

Ensures that charge capture and other policies are followed.

Additional responsibilities as requested.

4+ years of veterinary experience

Bachelor’s degree

Substitutions for the Bachelor’s degree:

Associate’s Degree plus 4 years of veterinary experience in addition to the 4+ years of veterinary experience.

HS diploma/ GED plus 6 years of veterinary experience in addition to the 4+ years of veterinary experience.

Preferred Job Qualifications

Outstanding communication skills and the ability to engage employees at all levels of the organization.

Prior leadership experience and/or shift lead experience

Registered Veterinary Technician or Veterinary Assistant

Veterinary Technician Specialist ( VTS ) in Emergency and Critical Care

Successful candidates should have flexibility with their schedule to meet the needs of 24/7 operations (days, evenings, weekends).

Experience in veterinary technician recruitment, leadership, and retention through creating a cohesive hospital environment and providing a structure where employees can advance.

Experience in an academic/higher education environment and/or veterinary specialty/emergency environment.

Understanding the educational and clinical goals of a veterinary teaching hospital.

Outstanding client communication and experience with conflict resolution.

Manage day-to-day workflow as a floor supervisor and shift coordination for veterinary support team. High-level leadership, communication and positive outlook are all critical attributes for success as a Supervisor in this unit.

Partners with Faculty Service Leader on collaborates with students, interns, residents, clinicians and clients

Ensures the consistent quality of patient care including triage, assessment, stabilization, treatment, monitoring, and restraint.

Assumes leadership and makes executive decisions in urgent situations when hospital leadership including faulty are not present.

Manages any client service focus (client questions, financial questions)

Ensures charge capture is accurate and timely within the unit

This position will be responsible for administering performance reviews, managing disciplinary issues, approving leave requests, reconciling timecards, and monitoring leave banks.
