Job Title: Property Accountant
SUMMARY
Sentinel Management Inc. is a growing full service commercial property management company headquartered in Longmont. We are one of the premier management companies in the area and looking for a qualified person to join our team so that we can grow together. Sentinel currently manages properties from Broomfield, Boulder and Longmont for owners that are in states ranging from New York to Alaska.
We’re looking for a talented property accountant who will be responsible for the general ledger accounting activities including, balance sheet reconciliations, and the preparation of monthly property financial reporting packages. The property accountant will also be responsible for the property accounting for our managed properties including, collaborating with property managers, leadership, and clients to ensure accurate, timely, and complete property execution from a financial standpoint.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following and other duties as may be assigned which are necessary for the smooth and continued operations of the company.
Prepare all aspects of the financial statement package, including creating and posting journal entries, general ledger review and completion of balance sheet support schedules
Ensure financial packages are completed and delivered in a timely and accurate manner to Property Managers, Business Managers and clients
Monitor and maintain cash balances
Review variances in financial statements and documents explanation for significant items
Prepare management fee calculations and ensure related invoices are paid
Ensures all debt, real estate tax, sales tax and owner distribution payments are made in a timely manner and internal schedules are maintained
Verify bank reconciliation is complete and ensures all reconciling items are resolved in a timely manner
Facilitate the budgeting process and verify that budget information has been properly input
Handle client audit requests as needed
Assist in the setup and transitions of properties which may include loading beginning balance information, sale pro-ration calculations, and closing entries
Facilitate annual operating expense reconciliations and assist property managers as needed
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret various types of business documents
Ability to effectively respond verbally or written to complex inquiries or complaints
Ability to present information to an internal group of employees
Requires a high level of commitment to customer service, whether co-workers or clients
Demonstrate ability to work well under pressure with a proactive approach to unusual occurrences
Requires excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and an openness to new ideas and procedures
Experience with MS Office software (Excel) and Real Estate accounting software (Yardi) preferred
Perform other related duties or ad hoc projects within the scope of responsibilities
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
A Bachelor's or Associate’s degree in accounting, finance, or business and a minimum of three years of related experience and/or training.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to make effective and persuasive arguments on controversial or complex topics to management, public groups, and/or customers.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, areas, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to operate various office equipment such as copiers, 10-key calculator, and printers. Excellent computer skills, familiar with Microsoft Excel. Yardi experience is preferred. Must have the ability to work with others, the ability to follow direction from management, and the ability to follow workplace procedures.

TRAVEL
This position may require travel to and from various Sentinel managed locations and other sites. It may require expedient travel methods to include aircraft, rental cars, and use of personal automobile. Estimated travel demands: 0-10% of time.
COMPENSATION
The compensation for this position will be industry conforming and consistent with experience and qualifications. Sentinel Management provides personal time off, health insurance, 401k program and potential for annual bonus.
