We need you to help us develop a next-generation set of predictive maintenance capabilities to transform the world of aviation.The Principal Data Scientist will oversee machine learning, statistical, and other analytics techniques within the fast-growing domain of data science to the challenges of aviation and aerospace. You will bring your data science specialty to cross-functional software and engineering teams to help launch and maintain leading-edge operational solutions around the world. You will work closely with customers and product teams, developing understanding of their problems, priorities and business needs. You will mentor and coach younger data scientists in their careers, champion major improvement and growth initiatives as you envision them and help oversee the development of new, major application developments from inception to completion.In particular, the Principal Data Scientist will serve as a strategic and technical lead for a 30+ team of data professionals in Advanced Technology Development, with a focus on developing new broad capability and service offerings in the predictive maintenance space. Building on our existing strengths and infrastructure, you will help organize the technical vision for a data science team mandated to build analytics- and ML-powered software products and service in aviation predictive maintenance. This will require all your skills and leadership in natural language processing, reliability statistics, time-series analysis and (probably federated) machine learning. Using your knowledge and expertise in cloud-based data applications, you will help guide development teams through critical design decisions and roadmaps. You will lead quality and skills-enhancement initiatives and champion a learning culture that values curiosity and self-betterment. Embedded within a large product development collaboration, this role will require strong software development understanding in addition to traditional data science expertise, and a strong customer focus.Position Responsibilities :

Communicates with customers, product owners and other stakeholders to understand requirements, steer development efforts and communicate deliverables/results

Leads cross-functional teams that determine, define and deploy highly complex predictive/prescriptive analytic solutions to meet business goals.

Provides technical leadership in machine learning and analytics, with a special emphasis on ML Ops and cloud-deployed data services

Identify opportunities to drive new business with AI, defining and executing on the AI roadmap

Develops production-level analytics tools for internal and customer-facing applications

Oversees technical approach, evaluation, validation and continuous performance monitoring of supported applications, models and analyses

Fostering a culture of AI-driven innovation—ensuring that everyone understands why AI is important to the future of the business and how it will affect their role.

Defining and ensuring regulation and compliance that involve AI.

Foster the creation of a data-driven culture, related competencies and data literacy across the Organization.

Champions culture of quality, learning, trust, and collaborative energy

This position is hybrid. This means that the selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options, Englewood CO. This is at the hiring team’s discretion and could potentially change in the future.Employer will not sponsor applicants for employment visa status.Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

7+ years’ experience in Data Science

Must be proficient in Python

Proficient in deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch and TensorFlow

Experience in advanced concepts such as supervised learning, reinforcement learning and active learning

Must be proficient in applied Machine Learning, MLOps

Must have experience (e.g., Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure) and APIs

Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, similar field of study or equivalent work experience

Preferred Qualifications (Education/Experience):

A strong, influential, innovative, and collaborative leader that can work in a global team

Strong background with optimizing and validating models

Experience with Prediction models, including time series models, regressors.

Experience with GenAI models, including LLMs

5+ years of experience working with internal and external customers

Should have experience in formal collaborative development environments and version control (e.g., Gitlab)

Should have prior experience in production-quality software development

Project management knowledge (PMBOK, Agile, Kanban) is preferred

Prior experience in applied industrial data science: predictive maintenance or reliability modeling is preferred

Prior experience in natural language processing is preferred

Prior experience in time-series analysis is preferred

Expertise in large-scale data analysis technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark, Cassandra, Pig, Hive) is preferred

Typical Education and Experience:Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience, 18 years' related work experience, etc.).
