Job Overview:
The Apprentice Van Upfitting Technician will support our experienced technicians in customizing vans to meet client specifications. This entry-level position offers hands-on experience in vehicle modification, with a clear path to becoming a commissioned technician.
Job Purpose:
This position is designed to train and develop an apprentice into a skilled van upfitting technician. The role is crucial to supporting workflow efficiency, ensuring quality installations, and maintaining a well-organized shop environment. Over time, this individual will gain the skills necessary to take on full technician responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in Vehicle Upfitting: Support the installation of shelving, partitions, ladder racks, HVAC systems, and other custom components.
Inventory Management: Help with receiving, organizing, and tracking inventory; pick and stage materials for projects.
Vehicle Handling: Assist in checking vehicles in and out, ensuring proper documentation and condition assessments.
Shop Maintenance: Maintain a clean and organized workspace; ensure tools and equipment are properly stored.
Forklift Operation: Operate a forklift to move materials and equipment safely (training provided if necessary).
Learning and Development: Actively engage in training opportunities to develop skills necessary for advancement.
Qualifications:
Attitude: Strong desire to learn, with a positive and proactive approach to tasks.
Physical Ability: Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds and performing tasks that involve standing, bending, and kneeling.
Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and take direction from experienced technicians.
Reliability: Punctuality and commitment to a full-time schedule.
Experience: Previous experience in a mechanical or automotive setting is a plus but not required.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in a shop environment with exposure to power tools, automotive equipment, and varying temperatures.
The position may require standing for long periods, lifting heavy objects, and working in confined spaces inside vehicles.
Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as needed for safety compliance.
Some tasks may involve working outdoors or in customer locations as required.
Reporting Structure:
This position reports directly to the managerial team and will work closely with experienced technicians. Regular check-ins and training sessions will be provided to ensure progress and skill development.
