Level III Data Center Field Tech Needed 3 Months (Contract to Hire)

Work Location: Thornton, CO

Position: Temporary, Full-Time

Duration: 3-month assignment with potential extension based on business needs

Working Hours:

Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

May require additional hours based on business needs

May include local travel to other client locations

Job Overview

The Data Center Technician will assist with hardware installation, asset tagging and scanning, cabling, maintenance, process documentation, and server installation.

Scope

Works on assignments that are moderately difficult, requiring judgment to resolve issues.

Requires some instruction for new tasks and occasional checks on daily work.

Roles and Responsibilities

Hardware Installation: Install, move, and decommission hardware, including cabinets, power strips, rails, servers, storage, and other devices.

Cabling and Tagging: Confirm and label devices, racks, and cables.

Ticket Management: Use ticketing systems to ensure clear, timely, and professional communication with customers.

Compliance: Follow SOPs, program policies, safety protocols, and security policies under the direction of the Site Operations Supervisor or Operations Manager.

Other Duties: Perform additional tasks as needed; this list is not exhaustive.

Required Qualifications & Skills

Education & Experience:

High school diploma or GED, plus 2–5 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Communication:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

Availability:

Must respond to on-call requests within 1 hour.

Technical Skills:

Experience with CAT5e, CAT6 copper cable, and multi-mode/single-mode fiber.

Knowledge of copper and fiber testers.

Ability to cable systems (power, copper, fiber) following SOP standards and ticket requirements.

Strong troubleshooting skills and experience with computer hardware.

Understanding of networking infrastructures and components.

Familiarity with data center best practices (e.g., fault tolerance, cable routing, power usage).

Organization & Adaptability:

Strong organizational skills and ability to adapt to changing priorities.

Data Center Equipment:

Experience with cable management and running fiber and copper cables.

Knowledge of electrical, HVAC, and bandwidth infrastructures.

Ability to operate material-handling equipment (e.g., server lifts, pallet jacks, forklifts – if certified).

Software Skills:

Proficiency with MS Office, MS Outlook, web browsers, and ability to learn new software.

Transportation:

Must provide own transportation to work locations.

Preferred Qualifications

Certifications in data center technologies.

Hands-on experience with electrical, HVAC, and data center infrastructures.

Knowledge of networking components and infrastructures, including Wi-Fi.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

Equipment Handling:

Physically assist with moving and racking equipment.

Safely lift and move a minimum of 50 pounds.

Office-Related Tasks:

Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods.

Ability to move within an office environment.

Use of computers and other office equipment.

Effective communication skills.

Repetitive Motion:

Some tasks may require repetitive movements of wrists, hands, or fingers.
