BACKGROUND
Denver Urban Gardens (DUG) is a 501(c)(3) organization nationally recognized as a leader in
creating sustainable community gardens. DUG was founded in 1985 to support local
neighborhoods in establishing food-producing community gardens and has expanded into
nutrition education and training programs, school partnerships and work in food access.
DUG’s mission is to provide the access, skills, and resources for people to grow healthy food in
community and regenerate urban green spaces.

earth, each other, and the food they eat.
The Garden Activation Coordinator will support DUG’s network of community gardens and
garden leaders, including community outreach and activation to address the needs of our
unique community gardens. We are looking for a flexible, self-starter individual who enjoys
working in a dynamic team environment, is passionate about effective and equitable approaches
to community building, and embraces cultivating relationships with people from a variety of
backgrounds and lived experiences.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
This position reports to the Director of Garden Leadership (DGL)
● Outreach - 65%
○ Carry out garden activation strategies for underutilized gardens, including
flyering, tabling, in-person neighborhood outreach, and utilizing garden email
accounts to communicate with interested community members
○ Support DGL with identifying and training new community Garden Leaders
○ Support returning Garden Leaders with community outreach and the annual
gardener plot registration process
● Events- 15 %
○ Support at DUG Garden Leader-specific events, including training sessions and
monthly meetups
○ Represent DUG at some community garden opening meetings and other
garden-led events
○ Support and attend DUG’s signature events throughout the year
● Program Development and Evaluation - 10%
○ Support DGL in gathering up-to-date information on Garden Leaders and
gardens to ensure we have clean and accurate data
○ Support DGL in gathering and incorporating feedback to improve program
efficacy
○ Support in vision for a fully active and supported garden network
● Administrative- 10%
○ Program tracking
○ Email, internal communication, and time tracking
○ Grant reporting
REQUIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCES + QUALIFICATIONS
● Experience in community organizing or community outreach
● Strong problem-solving skills with a high degree of flexibility and adaptability as a
self-starter
● Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to effectively and respectfully work with and interact
with diverse community members
● Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous
development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias
● Ability to use a computer for e-mail communication and online reporting
● Driver’s license and car to travel throughout our metro Denver network for in-person
meetings, site visits, outreach, and events, with mileage reimbursed by DUG
PREFERRED SKILLS
● Proficiency in language(s) other than English
● Google Workspace and Salesforce knowledge
● Knowledge and/or experience with food systems and food access
● Urban gardening or farming experience
This is a hybrid position, including in-office days, in-the-field work within DUG’s network, and
some work-from-home flexibility. Occasional evenings and weekends will be necessary. We

COMPENSATION + BENEFITS
Compensation is $45,000- $54,999. This is a full-time, non-exempt, fully benefited position
based on experience and skill set. Benefits include a flexible work schedule, paid holidays,
vacation, a ‘trusted time off’ paid time off policy, as well as generous employer-sponsored
health/dental insurance plans and retirement plan.
DUG offers professional learning opportunities in Horticulture, Urban agriculture, Food Access,
Health & Wellness, Climate Action, Community Garden building & education, Community
Garden establishment and support, and School Gardens. There is potential for opportunities for
advancement within Denver Urban Gardens as our programming expands.
