The Western Stock Show Association (WSSA) is in search of an individual to join our year-round Outside Grounds team as a heavy equipment operator.

Who We Are

Founded in 1906, the Western Stock Show Association aims to invest in future generations by promoting youth and community development through livestock and equestrian education, innovation, entertainment, and competition. We are best known for putting on the annual National Western Stock Show, which has called Denver its home since the 1890s.

Outside of the best 16 days in January, the National Western Events Complex hosts 200+ events, including horse & livestock shows, trade shows, wrestling tournaments, cheerleading competitions, and car shows. Our Outside Grounds team works closely with our Event Operations department to facilitate successful events and ensure our complex is functioning properly at all times.

What We Do

The Outside Grounds team contributes to show set up/tear down and general complex maintenance primarily through their operation of heavy equipment, including forklifts, skid steers, tractors, and loaders.

As an Equipment Operator, you will be expected to operate these different types of equipment to complete a variety of tasks, including assisting with show move-in/move-out, unloading deliveries, transporting shavings/manure waste, and clearing snow. Equipment Operators are responsible for ensuring all equipment is safe to operate and that all WSSA/NWSS safety policies and OSHA regulations are being followed during such operations. Tasks will regularly require various degrees of lifting, standing, bending, and walking.

What You Need

To qualify for this position, candidates must have experience operating a forklift, skid steer, tractor, loader, and/or similar equipment.

A valid driver’s license, clean and current MVR, and pre-employment drug test are all required.

Candidates must be able to be on their feet for long periods of time and lift up to 50 pounds. Candidates should be comfortable with working indoors, outside in all weather conditions, and around animals.

Successful crew members are able to understand verbal and written directions, can work independently as well as part of a team, and are safety-minded. Candidates must be able to communicate fluently in English.

As our schedule is based on the events booked in our Complex, scheduling flexibility is a must. Events may require early morning hours, late evening/overnight hours, holiday hours, and will definitely require weekend hours. Candidates should be prepared to work up to 12-hour shifts during events.

All job offers on contingent on the successful completion of a criminal background check and pre-employment drug test. Candidates must be 18 or older to apply.
