Job Position: Operator I
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Responsible for preventive and curative maintenance of all District facilities, equipment, and vehicles. Responsible for emergency call-out at all times except during periods of authorized leave. Rotating responsibility for primary on-call Duties following certification. Level 1 Certifications required within 1 year of employment.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Required duties are as directed by the Operations Manager and Field Supervisor. The following are intended to be illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive:
Maintains all sewer lines and fixtures by cleaning and repairing
Maintains all water lines and fixtures by cleaning exercising, and repairing
Raises, repairs, and replaces manhole rims, risers, rings, etc.
Responds, on a 24-hour basis, to emergency calls requiring repairs, maintenance, and/or equipment
Maintains equipment, vehicles, structures, and facilities by routine maintenance, including minor mechanical repairs and maintenance
Maintains digital records, reports, drawings and mapping regarding all Southgate facilities within Cityworks (Southgate's work and maintenance management system)
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Must have good mechanical aptitude and skills
Must be able to read and interpret operating procedures, maps, and construction plans
Must be physically able to lift heavy objects (e.g. manhole covers)
Must have good record keeping ability
Must have ability to develop and implement work schedules
Must have ability to work cooperatively with co-workers and general public
Must have basic computer/tablet skills
Must be able to learn to work within Cityworks and any other new software tool required by Southgate
Must participate in continuing industry education and training
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or equivalent.
Water distribution and wastewater collection certification a plus.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Previous experience not necessary
On-the-job training must be completed satisfactorily during 6-month probationary period
Must possess a valid Colorado driver's license
Must have an acceptable driving record that is insurable by the District
Must obtain a Colorado Commercial driver's license within 1-year of hire
Must be able to work on-call shifts for emergency response outside of normal business hours
Must live within 30 minutes of District office
Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
Must pass background check
Southgate is a drug and alcohol-free workplace and applicants and employees will be tested
A complete physical exam followed by a extensive Human Performance Evaluation will be required prior to employment offer
WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL CONDITIONS
The working conditions and physical requirements for this position include extensive field activities (during all seasons and weather conditions) with office activities.
Field work includes:
Operation of motor vehicles and heavy equipment
Foot travel over varying terrain and surface conditions
Climbing into and out of manholes, vaults, trenches, etc.
Lifting heavy objects, such as manhole covers, pipe, valves, etc.
Other activities requiring physical strength, dexterity, and flexibility, such as twisting associated with operating a valve or hydrant
Office work includes:
Personnel interaction
Phone work
Computer work
Periods in seated position
JOB STATUS
Position is a full-time, non-exempt position
STARTING SALARY
$33,280 per year with opportunity for certification bonuses and overtime pay
