Department InformationThis internship is a remote position with some fieldwork, we will expect interns to check-in to the main CDPHE office at least 1 time per month. Applicants must be local to Colorado. This is a non-employee intern position. No benefits are available. This is a temporary part-time up to full-time position (minimum 10 hours/week) and will exist for 4 months or less. Therefore, we encourage responses from people of diverse backgrounds and abilities.Description of JobTentative Start Date:Fall Internship - Flexible Start Dates for Fall SemesterSeptember 16, 2024About the Work Unit:The Division of Disease Control and Public Health Response's (DCPHR) new Health Equity Branch exists to expand and promote equitable access to opportunities and resources that impact an individual’s or community’s health and right to be free from communicable diseases and their health effects. The Health Equity Branch includes a Resource Support Team Unit. This Unit consists of several lines of work focused around establishing a regional support network for community-based organizations, healthcare entities, and local public health agencies in Colorado, primarily addressing the impacts of COVID-19 on community health. The regional support network helps community-based groups access funding and other resources to support programs that aim to advance health equity and address social determinants of health as they relate to COVID-19 health disparities among populations at higher risk and that are underserved. The Resource Support Team Unit will consist of 10 resource specialists (each with a specific geographic region of focus), 2 team leads, 1 evaluator, and 1 unit manager. The Resource Support Team Unit is responsible for assisting community-based organizations and other entities in accessing funds/resources through CDPHE for programs related to COVID-19 around cultural/community health navigation, wrap-around resource support, and community engagement and communications. The Regional Support Team is responsible for directing the overall portfolio of funded work, including program monitoring, within each region and across the state to assure community needs are met in region populations experiencing a disproportionate burden of COVID-19 infection, severe illness, and death to guide the response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Internship Description:Project Title: Evaluation and Health Equity Internship Project Description: The Health Equity Unit is looking for a curious and engaging individual interested in conducting an internship that will assist with improving their understanding of equitable evaluation practices including qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis. The intern will assist with qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis of grant activities for a mid-year evaluation of over 50 sub-recipients, which represent a wide range of organizations including larger agencies such as community health centers to small non-profit agencies. These agencies are recipients of grant funding to reduce the impact of COVID-19 on disproportionately affected populations, reduce vaccine hesitancy, and address the social determinants of health. The intern will also have the opportunity to shadow Equity Resource Specialists in activities such as providing technical assistance to interested applicants, development of scopes of work and budget for awarded grantees, and contract monitoring. Objectives:

By the end of the internship (end of December or early January), the intern will be able to list the steps associated with contract monitoring processes for immunization and health disparities grant sub-recipients.

By the end of the internship (end of December or early January) , the intern will conduct double coding for qualitative data on 25% of the sub-recipient deliverables.

By the end of the internship (end of December or early January), the intern will gain working knowledge of equitable evaluation principles through internship experiences and reading existing literature on the topic.

Deliverables or outcomes:

Assist with reviewing feedback to the mid-cycle evaluation presentation and use feedback to improve existing evaluation and measurement plan of the Immunization and Health Disparities awards.

Assist with qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis for Immunization and Health Disparities awards.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal RightsMinimum Qualifications:Qualified candidates must be either: Any college student enrolled in an accredited community college, college or university s eeking an Associates, Bachelors, Masters or Ph.D. degree program in the social and physical sciences, including but not limited to public health, sociology, politicalscience, biology, or closely related fields. OR A recent college graduate. Recently graduated means the individual should have attended an accredited college or university and have graduated with an Associates, Bachelors, Masters or Ph.D. degree in the social and physical sciences, including but not limited to public health, sociology, political science, biology within three calendar years (include transcripts).College Transcripts:If you are using education to qualify, a legible copy of your official or unofficial college transcript(s) or a foreign credential evaluation report must be submitted with your application. Transcripts must show the name of the school and that a degree was conferred. Transcripts from colleges or universities outside of the United States must be assessed for U.S. equivalency by a NACES educational credential evaluation service. Failure to provide a transcript or foreign credential evaluation report may result in your application being rejected and you will not be able to continue in the selection process for this position. Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis

Use of qualitative data analysis software

Use of Google Suite

Knowledge and/or experience with Diversity Equity and Inclusion concepts and practices

Knowledge and/or experience in evaluation practices and frameworks
