For more information, go to https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/repay-loans/forgiveness-cancellation/public-service?Description of JobWORK UNITThis position is responsible for identifying and determining the effects of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and other emerging contaminants at sites regulated by the Hazardous Materials & Waste Management Division (the Division); developing and coordinating the Division's response to, and oversight of, PFAS and other emerging contaminants; and working with the Division Director and the Division’s Program Managers to develop policy related to addressing PFAS and other emerging contaminants. Provides leadership for the Division by coordinating and collaborating with the department’s other environmental and public health divisions, industry representatives, various external departments, boards and commissions within the State, and federal partners to address PFAS and other emerging contaminant issues; represent the Division at community meetings to present information and respond to questions from communities and local governments concerned with PFAS and other emerging contaminants within their jurisdictions. On a regular basis, this position identifies issues and provides information and recommendations to the Division Director and the Division's Program Managers regarding PFAS and other emerging contaminant matters that may impact the Division. The position prepares written materials, as needed and appropriate, to share internally and with the public and other state agencies as well as local and federal government agencies. This position works to enhance the Division’s strategic response to PFAS and other emerging contaminant by serving as the Division’s central point of contact for implementing the Department-wide PFAS Action Plan. This position provides staff support for the Division Director and the Division’s Program Managers to assist with PFAS and other emerging contaminant matters.What You Will DoServes as the PFAS and other emerging contaminants staff authority for the Division and reports directly to the Division Director. This position serves as the Division’s central point of contact for implementing the Department-wide PFAS Action Plan, in coordination with the Department’s other environmental and public health divisions. Management relies on this position to provide recommendations that directly influence Division decisions related to the regulation of PFAS and other emerging contaminants. Oversees the Division's PFAS and other emerging contaminant response and serves as the Division's lead technical resource on integration of the Division's role in working with facilities, local governments, federal partners, communities, stakeholders, and statewide boards and commissions. This includes related policy development associated with PFAS and other emerging contaminants, balancing protection of public health, safety, welfare, and the environment. The position assists the Division in identifying and evaluating PFAS technologies related to the identification of sources and cleanup. This position also assists with conducting public outreach with communities and local governments throughout Colorado on PFAS and other emerging contaminants related to facilities and sites regulated by the Hazardous Materials & Waste Management Division.Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal RightsMinimum QualificationsThere are three ways to qualify for this position: Option OneEight (8) years of professional work experience in the professional environmental protection experience in per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and other emerging contaminants. Option TwoGraduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in environmental sciences, chemistry, chemical engineering, environmental engineering, or closely related field. AND Four years of professional environmental protection experience. Option Three:Substitutions

Additional environmental protection experience will substitute for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.

A graduate degree from an accredited college or university in environmental sciences, chemistry, chemical engineering, will be credited with two of the four years of professional experience.

The required experience must be substantiated within the work experience section of your application. Preferred Qualifications and Essential CompetenciesThe preferred experience, competencies and abilities are highly desirable for this position and will be considered in selecting the successful candidate:

Experience assessing water quality chemistry data

Experience assessing physical and biological data

Knowledge of the CERCLA, RCRA, and Colorado's Solid and Hazardous Waste Regulations

Understanding of state and federal environmental statutes, regulations, and cleanup standards pertaining to PFAS and other emerging contaminants

Understanding of available technologies to address PFAS and other emerging contaminants in environmental media

Understanding of the fate and transport of PFAS and other emerging contaminants in environmental media

Understanding of disposal and destruction technologies for PFAS and other emerging contaminants

Proven skill in using Excel and other Microsoft Suite software

Ability to review technical environmental reports and assessments

Ability to delegate work assignments and ensure work is complete

Demonstrates accountability by assuming responsibility for successfully accomplishing work objectives

Ability to pay close attention to detail by ensuring information is complete and accurate
