Residential New Construction Controller

DEALBREAKER REQUIREMENTS (non-negotiable): 1) You must have significant experience working for a large volume homebuilder in a controller role. 2) You must be willing to permanently relocate to Dallas, TX and office at the company's headquarters.

Job Summary:

The Controller is a key leadership role responsible for the financial health and strategic direction of the organization. This position will lead the development and execution of the company's financial plan, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and driving profitable growth. The Controller will oversee all financial operations, provide insightful analysis to support decision-making, and manage a high-performing accounting team.

Responsibilities:

Strategic Financial Leadership:

Develop and maintain a comprehensive financial plan that supports the company's strategic goals.

Partner with the senior management team to provide financial insights and guidance on strategic initiatives, including acquisitions, market expansion, and new revenue streams.

Lead the development of financial models and analyses to support strategic decision-making.

Prepare and present financial forecasts and presentations to the Board of Directors, banks, investors, and rating agencies.

Financial Planning & Analysis:

Oversee daily accounting and cash management operations.

Direct competitive financial analysis and statistical studies.

Develop and manage the annual budget, financial forecasts, and operating plan.

Analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) across all areas of revenue, cost of sales, expenses, and capital expenditures, identifying trends and variances.

Monitor performance indicators, highlight trends, and analyze causes of unexpected variances.

Drive process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

Reporting & Compliance:

Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.

Design and direct the preparation of recurring and ad-hoc financial performance analyses.

Ensure compliance with GAAP and other relevant regulations.

Oversee internal controls and recommend improvements.

Team Leadership & Development:

Manage, coach, and mentor the accounting team, fostering a positive and productive work environment.

Set clear goals and expectations for team members and provide regular feedback.

Ensure the team has the resources and training necessary to succeed.

Cash Management:

Oversee cash flow forecasting and management.

Manage online banking and wire transfers.

Optimize cash discount utilization.

Accounts Payable Oversight:

Supervise Accounts Payable and provide guidance and support.

Review overhead invoices and ensure accurate processing.

Oversee payables and cash disbursement.

Other Duties:

Assist with the annual budget and quarterly updates.

Cultivate and maintain strong banking relationships.

Communicate financial performance and variances to relevant stakeholders.

Prepare journal entries as needed.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration; MBA preferred.

8-10 years of progressive Financial Planning and Analysis experience.

10-15 years of experience in the homebuilding industry required.

Thorough understanding of GAAP.

Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

Experience with Hyphen BRIX/BuildPro preferred.

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.

Proven ability to lead and motivate a team.

Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
