MITRE’s Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Program Division seeks a MITRE staff member with a passion for leading and managing staff to join the N262 MDA Sensors and C4ISR Department leadership team. N262 provides technical support to MITRE’s MDA Program across the Ground Sensors, Battle Management, Command, Control, and Communications (BMC3), Space Systems, Cyber Security, and Advanced Development domains.N260 Group Leaders (aka direct supervisors) focus on retaining, recruiting, and growing geographically distributed talented staff; ensuring quality delivery to the MDA Program Division; and accomplishing Division and Department strategic initiatives. N260’s average Group size is 6. This position is open to qualified lead step and above applicants. The job is a Lead Step, Huntsville, AL-based or Colorado Springs, CO-based, position; this work location is required to effectively foster staff relationships and shape the work program. Job Responsibilities:

Department and staff engagement – serve as a direct supervisor for assigned staff providing technical support, conduct regular performance and development conversations, mentor and advocate for staff and provide recognition, guidance, and advice

Communicate with project / task leads on staff performance, assess staff performance, and provide constructive feedback on a regular basis

Technical quality / execution / capability development – assist department management and the leadership team in workforce shaping, work program development, maintaining awareness of emerging technical issues and opportunities

Support department and division operations functions as requested by department manager.

Develop a deep understanding of Department and Division capabilities. Seek to integrate this group's capabilities with those of other Division groups, for example advanced analytic modeling, simulation-based design, and problem visualization, to deliver solutions which incorporate multiple group capabilities

Recruiting - Hire employees to grow team capacity and capabilities

Collaboration and communication – support regular communication between staff and project / task leaders; serve as a proactive liaison between staff and department / senior management, seek opportunities to collaborate across portfolios and facilitate open sharing of program and/or technical area knowledge with other managers and staff

Contribute to the technical work program. In addition to their management responsibilities, group leaders are expected to provide technical contributions to direct sponsor projects or research projects

Facilitate professional development through leadership, coaching, mentoring, and communication.

Provide timely recognition of exceptional behavior and performance resulting in significant impact.

Basic Qualifications:

Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related technical degree or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.

Active SECRET clearance with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI

8 + years of experience in developing and evolving enterprise technical capabilities and defense programs through the practical application of systems architecting and/or systems engineering best practices

Demonstrated ability to define complex projects or programs and derive sequence of tasks from those projects.

Candidate understands that he/she will be responsible for work and/or customer relationship development and will act according to—and guide others toward—the proper balance of a) product depth with timeliness and b) technical improvements with programmatic constraints, even when hard compromises are required

Strong desire to invest in others’ success

Aptitude to act with discretion, while knowing when to engage higher-level management

Capacity to deliver timely and constructive feedback

Mentorship mindset

Robust leadership, collaboration, and interpersonal skill set

Ability to support decisions

Working understanding of the MDA Work Program

Excellent written and verbal communications skills.

This position requires a minimum of 4 days a week onsite.

Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum of two years’ experience in personnel supervision or in orchestrating large teams/groups in task completion

Experience leading or managing geographically dispersed groups

Experience working with distributed teams across a variety of technical and work areas

Technical expertise in a relevant domain

Known as a team player

Currently supporting C2BMC work programs

Recognized as a thought leader and one who dynamically executes leadership and consensus decisions

Active TS/SCI or above DoD Clearance
