Position Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Utility Locates Specialist to oversee the complete lifecycle of utility locate coordination for construction and directional drilling projects. This individual will be responsible for submitting, managing, and verifying utility locate requests through Colorado811, conducting field verification of marked utilities, and ensuring compliance with all applicable safety and regulatory requirements. This is not a remote position.
Key Responsibilities:
-Submit and manage locate requests through Colorado811 (including standard, priority, and emergency tickets).
-Track ticket status and ensure all utilities are marked correctly prior to project mobilization.
-Perform field verification of utility locates, documenting and photographing markings as needed.
-Coordinate with utility companies and private locate firms when clarification or re-marking is required.
-Maintain detailed records of tickets, maps, and field notes to ensure accuracy and legal compliance.
-Communicate clearly with field crews, supervisors, and clients regarding locate status and potential conflicts.
-Pre-plan locate timelines based on construction schedules and ensure no work begins before locates are verified.
-Assist with utility conflict resolution and provide input during jobsite planning to avoid damage or delays.
-Ensure compliance with Colorado811 guidelines, CDOT regulations, and company policies.
Required Qualifications:
-Comfortable working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions for field verification.
-Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple locate requests simultaneously.
-Proficient in basic computer software (Google Workspace, Excel, digital ticket tracking platforms).
-Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (you will be provided a company vehicle for field work)
-Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
-Previous experience in construction, directional drilling, utility locating, or damage prevention.
-Familiarity with utility maps, GIS systems, and digital field tools.
-OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification a plus
Hours
Monday-Friday 8am-5pm with a strong possibility of overtime
This is not a remote position. You will be required to start & end each day at the office in Erie.
Pay
This position starts at $23.50 per hour with a review for pay increase after the first 6 months of employment
