Sunflower Farm Acres is a production farm stemming from Sunflower Farm’s educational demonstration farm. Sunflower Farm has been educating children and families about farming, animals, gardening and nature for over 20 years, and in 2024 started growing food for the community through CSA shares, farmer’s markets, wholesale vegetable sales and on-site veggie sales.
We are currently seeking a Head Farmer, who is hard working, loves working outside and can commit to the entire 2025 growing season. This position will begin part-time in February, with 20-25 hours per week and become a full-time, salaried position March through December 2025.
The Head Farmer’s responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Lead tractor operations: field prep, flipping beds & cultivation
Seeding, transplanting & caring for crops through harvest
Assisting with greenhouse seeding & growing
Organic pest & weed control
Installing, maintaining & managing drip irrigation systems
Collaborating in the creation of a crop plan, utilizing Farmbrite software
Assisting with harvesting & CSA, wholesale & market preparation
Working closely with the operations manager & harvest manager in creating weekly CSA distribution & wholesale lists
Assisting in construction & maintenance of grow structures (eg., high tunnels)
Experience: At least 2-5 years of previous farming and tractor experience on a production farm. Management experience preferred; excellent communication skills required.
Successful candidates should be comfortable working outside in all weather conditions, physically able to lift at least 50 pounds and willing to walk, kneel and stand for a full work day in the heat, cold, rain and/or snow.
Benefits: The production farm will be closed the week of June 30th and the head farmer will receive five days of paid vacation for that week. Sick and safe pay is offered as it is accrued for every thirty hours worked. Additional benefits include a regular veggie CSA share, beginning the week of June 2nd through November 20th, as well as free access for you and two guests to any Farmfest Music evenings.
Pay will be based on experience and will be between $22-$24 per hour, part-time and will be salaried based on a 40-hour work week beginning in March. Please send cover letter and resume.
