Our dynamic and community-centered organization is looking for an energetic, conscientious, and resourceful Farm Program Specialist to join our team. The Milk and Honey Farm is a 2+ acre educational, sustainable farm located at the Boulder JCC. The farm brings community members together for experiential programs and activities grounded in Jewish heritage, tradition, and values and provides a place for individuals to connect on the simplest level with soil, plants, animals, and people.

The Farm Program Specialist, in partnership with the Farm Director, is the primary staff for farm programs including Jewish programs, field trips, volunteering, and the goat co-op. This position is the primary point of contact for volunteers on the Farm during the growing season. You will ensure that all programs run smoothly and follow the documented policy and procedure. Programs and Field Trips should offer enriching experiences for those visiting the Milk & Honey Farm. You will also help with general farm management and farm work. You will support the JCC and Farm’s mission to be a home for community that builds relationships, embraces differences and embodies what Jewish Life can be.

This position will also include $1000 hiring bonus with the first half payable at six months and the second half payable at one year, in addition to access to fresh produce throughout the season.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Farm Programs:

Work with the Farm and Sustainability Director to achieve growing and programming goals throughout the season.

Collaborate with the Farm and Sustainability Director to plan and execute farm based educational programs for families and adults.

Assist with the training and support of all farm staff and farm adjacent staff including the Farm Assistant, Farm Camp Specialist, and ECC Farm Educator.

Coordinate the use of all farm spaces and lead monthly meetings for heavy users of the farm space including camp, ECC, Specialty Classes and adult programs.

Volunteer Management

Recruit, orient, supervise and appreciate volunteers who support the farm operations, mostly during the growing season on Mondays and Thursdays. Ensure all volunteers are properly trained, supported and safe.

Farm Field Trips:

Primary field trip leader

Respond to all field trip inquiries. Transfer all relevant information into Salesforce database.

Schedule, plan and coordinate field trips in collaboration with all farm users. Ensure all spaces are booked and the calendar is up to date to ensure smooth operation.

Communicate with field trip organizers regarding logistics, payment and safety leading up to their visit.

Determining fees and monitor income and expenses to ensure trips stay within budget

Collaborate with farm staff and educators to ensure a meaningful field trip experience.

Follow up with evaluation and collect feedback. Maintain feedback log.

Coordinate with the marketing team for outreach and promotion of the field trip opportunities offered.

Keeping Farm Staff informed of trip details.

Review risk assessments and track incident reports to manage risk and safety.

Maintain an organized event equipment and supplies inventory, ensuring proper storage and upkeep. Supply procurement.

Manage Goat Co-op

Work with the Farm and Sustainability Director to lead the Goat Coop and manage the goat herd.

Understanding the regulations surrounding the production of raw milk. Ensure that the co-op adheres to these regulations and including licensing and food laws.

Ensure the health and safety of the animals and coop members. Report any maintenance needs, keep goat milking areas clean and sanitary.

Supply, inventory management, and procurement related to the goat herd.

Ensure all waivers, agreements and payments by coop members are addressed on an annual basis.

Manage the coop budget.

Animal Care including but not limited to hoof trimming, medication administration, feeding, hay hauling, and birthing.

Work with goat coop members on shift scheduling, sharing goat care instructions from shift to shift

Plan social events for and with coop members to build community.

Welcome and train new coop members. Ensure all members are properly trained, supported and safe.

Respond to inquiries about joining the coop.

Support JCC programs with goat coop members as volunteers.

Work with the JCC Marketing team to support coop growth.

Farm management

Work with Farm Director on general management of Farm spaces (Greenhouse, Orchard, Donation field, Educational garden, Food Forest, Compost, etc.)

Carry out crop-plan

Create and manage grazing plan

Help design and manage new farm spaces

COMPENSATION

This is a full-time non-exempt hourly position with a salary range of $17.64-$20.53/hour commensurate with experience. This is an average 40-hour per week year-round position. The benefits for staff currently include a 403b retirement plan with generous company match and paid time off. This position will also include $1000 hiring bonus with the first half payable at six months and the second half payable at one year, in addition to access to fresh produce throughout the season.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

2-4 seasons working on a farm

Ability to lead field trip participants ranging in age from babies to senior adults in all kinds of weather conditions, walking and standing most of the time

Skill in public speaking and presenting information to groups

Passion for animals, agriculture, community building, and working with volunteers.

Ability to work in all weather conditions, year-round

Good at working as a Team player and independently; Enthusiasm and self motivation

Creative problem solving

Need to work some weekends and evenings

Comfortable with computer skills including the Google Suite and project management software.

Good communication skills.

Calm and orderly approach to internal and external customers

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to life up to 50 lbs

Squatting, Kneeling, Carrying, pushing, Walking and standing most of the time

Ability to work in all weather conditions
