This work unit is responsible for the maintenance, installation, fabrication, inspection and preventive maintenance of the structural aspects of the University's buildings, including roofs, exteriors, windows, sidewalks, stairs, ceilings, walls, doors, floors, fixed seating, architectural sheet metal, water proofing systems, and ductwork for air systems.This position provides campus with journey level structural trades support including fabrication, installation, maintenance, and repair of campus structural trades building components. The mission of the department is to provide a safe physical environment that promotes the advancement and transfer of knowledge!What Your Key Responsibilities Will BeStructural Component Installation, Maintenance & Repairs

Organize and implement assigned maintenance projects by determining the best materials and most efficient methods of construction, installation, or repair to reach project completion while meeting code regulations and basic standard structural trade procedures. This includes all phases of structural trades maintenance assignments including glass replacement, restroom accessories repairs, and repairs/replacement of floor tiles, carpet tiles, ceiling tiles and grids, doors, windows, walls, chalkboards/whiteboards, and other structural trades building components. Correct use of hand and power tools is required for tasks.

Fabrication

Fabricate and install cabinetry, furniture, bookcases, countertops, shelving, custom wood trim, chair rail, picture rail and other fine woodworking projects by designing and reading plans or sketches, job lay out, manufacturing of parts, constructing, sanding, gluing and assembling. Recreate, restore and repair existing fine woodworking in campus buildings by duplicating and matching existing details. Plan reading and construction of walls, installation of sheetrock, insulation, cove base, base board, crown mold, door ways, acoustic ceilings and other aspects of structural remodel fabrications.

Small Construction Projects

Work independently to complete small construction projects and fabrication projects. In support of small construction projects, duties may include removal of existing materials, framing new walls, hanging drywall, installing doors and windows, installing ceiling materials, installing flooring materials and installing interior trim.

Painting, Wall Preparation, & Color-Matching

Perform journey level painting of interior and exterior surfaces for protection and decoration by patching, texturing, priming, sanding and/or caulking. Apply finishes by use of brush, roller and/or spray equipment. Perform drywall finishing by joint compound application, drywall taping, sanding and texture matching resulting in a finished wall. Some estimating of time and materials when requested. Mix and match paint, stains, and other finishing materials. Use knowledge of paint formulas and tint machine to create paint colors.

Asbestos Abatement & Lead-Based Paint Awareness

Obtain and maintain certification as a "16 hour asbestos abatement certified employee". Within this function, be responsible to remove, drill, scrape, clean and generally work with materials that may contain asbestos. Window putty, ceiling tiles, floor tiles and walls may contain some level of asbestos. Additionally, attend annual training for lead-based paint awareness and stabilization processes.

Paperwork & Scheduling

Responsible for completing material issuance requests and purchase requests to procure any material needed to support the position's work load. When closing work orders, include closing comments and ensure repair work orders are created. As an essential services employee, respond to other duties as assigned on an "as needed" basis. To complete these duties, drive a State vehicle and maintain a valid State of Colorado drivers license.

Safety

Actively participate in safety meetings. Follow all safety policies, procedures and guidelines, and adhere to Standing Operating Procedures for assignments and use of equipment. Participate in and complete all safety trainings. Report potential safety hazards, mistakes, accidents and/or procedural violations to supervisor.

There are 2 shifts available for these in-person positions. Day Shift: Monday - Friday 6:30 am - 3:00 pm OR Evening Shift: 1:30 pm - 10:00 pm.

This position may be required to work alternative shifts at the discretion of the shop supervisor.

What We Can Offer

The annual salary rate for this position is $55,692.

If you have prior state-classified experience in the same class series as this position, your pay may be set at a higher amount per the state Step Pay Program implemented on July 1, 2024.

Four years of experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position OR a combination of related education, formalized apprenticeship program, and/or relevant experience equal to four (4) years.

Must be a Colorado resident to apply and possess a valid Driver's License.
