NIST recognizes that its research staff may wish to collaborate with researchers at academic institutions on specific projects of mutual interest, thus requires that such institutions must be the recipient of a PREP award. The PREP program requires staff from a wide range of backgrounds to work on scientific research in many areas. Employees in this position will perform technical work that underpins the scientific research of the collaboration. PREP provides research opportunities to CU undergraduate and graduate students, as well as researchers with a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in NIST labs to gain research experience alongside NIST scientists. The particular group that needs a researcher is the Advanced Communications Research Group under the Public Safety Research Communications Division at NIST.What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Collect data using a mobile lidar scanning system and process the acquired data.
Utilize an OptiTrack motion capture system to test infrastructure free indoor localization systems; develop software in support of this system.
Improve and document the methods for testing indoor localization systems using the motion capture system.
Work with the PSCR Lab Operations team to coordinate and document the deployment of hardware and software capabilities required to support the team's R&D activities.
Develop software implementations of indoor localization and tracking systems.
Run simulations to evaluate the performance of indoor localization systems.
Document and present the results of performance evaluations of indoor localization and tracking systems.
Other hardware/software tasks as required.
Work independently and as part of a diverse team of researchers and support team members to meet the mission goals of the Public Safety Communications Research Division at NIST.
