Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced CNC Lathe Set-Up Operator to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience in a high-volume CNC machine shop environment and be capable of setting up and operating CNC lathes with minimal supervision. The primary production focus is on wheels and wheel components made from aluminum.
This role requires a self-motivated, focused, and organized individual who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The CNC Lathe Set-Up Operator will be responsible for setting up machines, ensuring precise operation, and maintaining the highest quality standards in our production process.
Key Responsibilities:
Interpret and analyze blueprints, layouts, and charts to determine materials, sequence of operations, dimensions, and tooling instructions.
Select and install appropriate cutting tools based on metal properties and written specifications.
Set up and align cutting tools in tool holders on machines, verifying their positions with measuring instruments.
Adjust cutting speeds, depths, and feed rates, positioning tools accurately in relation to the workpiece.
Run machines through full cycles, stopping to make necessary tool adjustments to ensure proper timing, clearance, and tolerances.
Monitor operations and inspect finished parts to verify conformance with specifications using precision measuring instruments.
Troubleshoot issues and perform minor maintenance to ensure optimal machine performance.
Work collaboratively with team members to improve processes and maximize efficiency.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent.
5 to 8 years of experience in a high-volume CNC machine shop environment.
Proficiency in setting up and operating CNC lathes with Okuma, HAAS, and Fanuc controls.
Ability to write and edit CNC programs to improve job performance.
Strong understanding of complex mechanical drawings and tolerances.
Experience with short-run jobs and frequent set-ups in a fast-paced production setting.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written or oral form.
Strong mathematical skills, including the ability to work with whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
Physical ability to lift parts up to 45 pounds.
