Medical Assistant for the Health Center

The Thacher School is one of the most selective and highly regarded boarding schools in the

nation. Founded in 1889 by Sherman Day Thacher, the school serves 260 academically

talented students from twenty four states and nine countries in a rigorous college preparatory

character. The Thacher School Health Center is responsible for creating an atmosphere that

provides for continuity of quality medical care for all members of The Thacher School student

community.

Department: Health Services

Position: Medical Assistant

Reports to: Director of Health Services & Assistant Director of the Health Center

Status: Full Time, staff

Rate range: $19-25 per hour

Summary of responsibilities:

● Work collaboratively with the campus physician, health center staff, local and home

physicians, parents, faculty, staff, administration, and local pharmacies to provide quality

healthcare assistance to students while on campus.

● Assist the daily health center nurse(s) in the routine care and triage of student complaints

with subsequent follow-up planning as needed.

● Assist the daily health center nurse(s) in documentation and follow up coordination.

● Schedule medical, dental, psychiatric, orthodontic, physical therapy, and other health

related appointments for students as needed. Send appointment reminders to students.

● Manage and schedule a team of drivers for health related appointments.

● Ensure required medical document compliance and subsequent management and

dissemination (in accordance with HIPAA regulations) of all information regarding

healthcare records using our electronic computer charting system, August Health.

● On-board new and returning students to the online health portal and assist parents in

uploading required documentation.

● Assist in prescription medication workflow with particular emphasis given to medication

compliance, timely refill acquisition, and communication with prescribing doctor(s) as

needed.

● Assist in the tracking of allergies, dietary preferences, daily follow ups, long term injury

plans, off-campus appointments, camping program accommodations, etc.

● Assist in ensuring that all equipment is fully functional and that the Health Center is

adequately stocked with supplies as needed.

● General office administration, including answering calls and scanning/faxing documents

● Create templates and generate spreadsheets to streamline workflow

● Greet and check-in students for appointments

● Prepare training materials for staff and assist in scheduling periodic team meetings

● Organize and arrange for COVID-19 start up testing and surveillance testing as needed.

● Assist in various projects throughout the year such as: restocking first aid kits, organizing

student information for camping trips, vaccine clinics, etc.

● Oversee student medication compliance and compliance documentation

● Assist in maintaining the health center facilities (sanitizing, laundry, bed making, etc.)

● Maintain confidentiality and conform to HIPAA standards

● Other duties as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications:

● Medical Assistant certification preferred

● Current BLS/CPR preferred.

● Experience with adolescents preferred.

● Must show a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

● Must show excellence in organizational management.

● Must be comfortable and proficient with Mac OS, Google Suite, and MS Office Suite,

particularly Microsoft Excel/Google sheets

● Must be an excellent communicator in both written and oral form.

Other Requirements

A current (or ability to obtain) California driver license with a satisfactory motor vehicle record

and ability to transport students in school-owned vehicles. A criminal background check must be

successfully completed before employment can begin.

Salary Range

The hourly range is $19.00-$25.00 per hour. Final hourly rate is based on experience relevant to
