The City of Ventura Water Department is looking to for a Utilities Mechanic I/II to join our Wastewater Maintenance Team. If you are seeking an opportunity to grow into a long-term career in water, we offer training and advancement opportunities at the Ventura Water Reclamation Facility.
Incumbent may be required to work stand-by on rotational basis and report to work on a callback basis as needed within a designated time frame. Standby assignment is at the discretion of the Division Head.
What You’ll Do
The Utilities Mechanic performs a wide variety of mechanical repairs on plant equipment and facilities and may occasionally assist in routine electrical maintenance work. These skilled professionals may work alone or as members of a crew in construction, maintenance/repair of the water system’s equipment and facilities.
Depending on experience, this team member will act in an entry level or journey capacity maintaining mechanical equipment related to wastewater facilities. The Wastewater team is responsible for mechanical work at Ventura Water Reclamation Facility.

Position Qualifications
Utilities Mechanic I: A combination of education, training and experience equivalent to one year of experience working with and performing repairs to a variety of mechanical equipment.
Utilities Mechanic II: A combination of education, training and experience equivalent to two years at the Utilities Mechanic I level independently performing repairs to a variety of mechanical equipment related to water and wastewater equipment and facilities and demonstrated ability to safely assist journey level electrical workers.
License or Certificate Requirements:
Wastewater: Possession of a valid California Class C driver license. Within six months of employment, employee must obtain and, thereafter, maintain a valid California Class A driver's license with the following endorsements/restrictions: Tanker endorsements - no restrictions. According to the Department of Transportation (DOT), drug testing is required.
CWEA Mechanical Technologist Grade I Certification desirable.

SALARY: $27.92 - $37.50 Hourly DOQ
