In this capacity, the Technical Manager is responsible for the organization of work, supervision of employees, staff development, expense control, quality assurance, process improvement, and problem solving in the delivery of services and related programs within the division. Performs all job duties with sensitivity and attention to the developmental issues of the patient population(s) served.
Supervises the delivery of division or program services and a comprehensive quality assurance program to ensure accurate and valid outcomes.
Participates in the development of business and/or operations plans; assists in introducing new processes and procedures.
Writes, reviews, and revises policies and procedures.
Initiates and/or participates in continuous quality improvement of systems and processes.
Assists in overseeing division/program fiscal affairs, including expense reduction, utilization management and budget control.
Contributes input into staff performance and competency evaluation, discipline, hiring and termination of employment.
Assists manager to insure division readiness for accreditation and licensure.
Interacts with other ancillary departments to address issues and serves on committees such as QA, Safety, LIS as needed.
Supervises division employees, hiring, assignment of work, orientation, training, competency and performance evaluation, discipline and termination of employment.
Manages the effective utilization of human resources, including the development of appropriate staffing and management of productivity.
Provides leadership, coaching and opportunities for professional development to facilitate work processes, collaboration, and quality outcomes.
Participates in the education activities for the division, including student and resident training, preceptor functions and continuing education.
Sets reasonable goals and objectives and meets them within the specified time frames.
QualificationsRequirements:
Valid California Clinical Laboratory Scientist license or limited license appropriate for the area of responsibility.
Master’s degree in a biological science, chemistry, or medical technology; or an appropriate Baccalaureate Degree with ASCP or AAB Board of Registry certification in appropriate specialty, or equivalent education and experience.
Five years of relevant clinical experience with at least three years in specialty.
Some experience in supervision and teaching, as well as professional involvement such as membership on committees, publication of papers and presentation of conferences, desirable.
Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with peers, patients, physicians, and other customers of the medical center.
Full command (verbal and written) of the English language.
