Thermo Fisher Scientific's Ion Chromatography and Sample Preparation (ICSP) team is seeking a Senior Manager of R&D Electrical and Software Engineering to drive impactful innovations in solving scientific challenges. This strong technical experience will be the foundation to guide the team in a leadership capacity to drive innovation, new product development projects, install an efficient development process/standard methodologies, building the capabilities within the team to address current and future needs, and continue to inspire the team on continuous improvement.What will you do?
Defines, plans, and implements the Electrical Engineering (EE), Firmware (FW), Software (SW) exploratory, new product development, and sustaining projects, per technology plan, in support of the ICSP business unit business strategy.
Offers technical guidance and knowledge to the team, ensuring alignment with industry norms and established methods.
Proactively partners with multi-functional teams, such as other R&D departments, product management, and manufacturing, to ensure seamless integration of electrical/software engineering solutions into the overall product development process.
Creates and maintains a short and long-term technical and resource support strategy for the team that aligns with the ICSP business unit strategic plan.
Conducts risk assessments and implements mitigation strategies to address potential challenges or issues during the development process.
Manages project budgets and resources effectively, optimizing productivity and efficiency.
Supervises industry trends and advancements in electrical/software engineering, and incorporates innovative technologies and methodologies into the R&D process.
Ensures compliance with relevant regulatory requirements and standards.
Mentors and develops team members, encouraging a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.
Collaborates with external partners, suppliers, and vendors to source materials, components, and equipment.
Engages in technical reviews, presenting project updates and findings to senior management and other key individuals involved.
Identifies and implements process improvements to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the electrical/software engineering function within the R&D department.
Maintains accurate documentation, including design specifications, test plans, and project reports.
How will you get here?Education
Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering (BS or equivalent experience) is required; a MS/MBA degree is preferred.
Experience
12+ years of relevant experience.
5+ years of successfully leading and managing R&D teams; including hiring, training, and performance management.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Proficiency in leading and managing R&D projects from conception to commercialization.
Hands-on design knowledge in low-level signal acquisition, filtering, and signal processing required.
Experience in Diagnostics, Life Sciences, or Analytical Chemistry industry strongly preferred.
Experience at creating and fostering an empowered, creative, collaborative, innovative, positive, fun, and accountable team culture.
Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills, with the ability to analyze complex data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions to overcome challenges and achieve project objectives.
Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate findings to individuals with varying technical backgrounds.
Compensation and BenefitsThe salary range estimated for this position based in California is $163,100.00–$215,000.00.This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy.
