Description As an HIM (Health Information Management) Technician, you will play a crucial role in managing and maintaining healthcare data integrity within our organization. You will be responsible for various tasks related to health information management, including coding, data entry, record retrieval, release of information, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will possess a strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and a commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality.Responsibilities:

Coding and Classification: Assign accurate diagnostic and procedural codes to patient records using ICD (International Classification of Diseases) and CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) coding systems.

Data Entry: Enter patient information into electronic health record (EHR) systems accurately and efficiently.

Record Retrieval: Retrieve medical records as requested by healthcare providers, insurance companies, and other authorized personnel in a timely manner.

Release of Information: Process requests for the release of patient health information in accordance with HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) regulations.

Quality Assurance: Review medical records for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with regulatory standards.

Compliance: Stay up-to-date with changes in healthcare regulations and coding guidelines to ensure compliance with industry standards.

Data Integrity: Maintain the integrity and confidentiality of patient health information by adhering to privacy and security protocols.

Collaboration: Work closely with healthcare providers, coding specialists, and other members of the healthcare team to ensure accurate and complete documentation.

Training: Provide training and support to staff members on HIM-related processes and procedures as needed.

Auditing: Assist in internal and external audits of health information management processes to ensure accuracy and compliance.

Requirements

Qualifications:

Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Certification or associate degree in Health Information Management or related field is preferred.

Certification: Certified Coding Associate (CCA) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification is highly desirable.

Experience: Prior experience in health information management, medical coding, or healthcare administration is preferred but not required.

Technical Skills: Proficiency in using electronic health record (EHR) systems, coding software, and Microsoft Office applications.

Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and coding processes.

Organizational Skills: Excellent organizational and time management skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines effectively.

Communication: Effective verbal and written communication skills to interact with healthcare providers, staff members, and external stakeholders.

Ethical Standards: Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and complying with ethical and regulatory standards in healthcare.
