Senior Financial AnalystOffice of External Relations, Stanford, California, United StatesNewFinancePost Date 6 hours agoRequisition # 104900Main Work Location: Arrillaga Alumni Center, Main CampusWork Arrangement: Hybrid (2 days per week on site)Stanford’s Office of External Relations aligns the work of Stanford's externally facing teams—the Offices of Development, Government Affairs, University Communications, Community Engagement, and Special Events—and collaborates with partners across the university to enhance existing externally-facing programs and develop new strategies for promoting engagement with and philanthropy and service to the university.The External Relations Finance Department stewards resources totaling over $150 million. In addition to budget and forecast management, the finance team supports gift reporting, fundraising campaign tracking, data analysis, and reporting for the Development Committee of the Board of Trustees. The Office of Development raised $1.5 billion in philanthropy in the last publicly reported fiscal cycle (FY23). The Finance Department also oversees much of the University’s gift-matching programs. The unit provides billet tracking and position-management oversight for approximately six hundred staff under the Central External Relations umbrella.Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Finance, the Senior Financial Analyst will perform complex financial functions requiring advanced knowledge of internal policies, external regulations, and multiple operating and gift systems. They will manage several key projects for the team, including personnel tracking and related surveys that require outreach to distributed schools and units across Stanford. They will also serve as the primary financial liaison for multiple External Relations departments, answering questions that come up around day-to-day financial activities as well as issues associated with gifts and pledges.In this role you will:

Have primary responsibility for personnel billet tracking and analysis, which will include building a new management dashboard.

Perform and design adhoc analyses of large complex data sets. Reconcile complex accounts. Identify and resolve issues which may span multiple areas.

Construct and assemble data for budgeting and decision making; develop conclusions, and present high-level recommendations.

Conduct analyses and recognize exceptions. Participate in developing solutions that may require policy changes or the development of new processes; maintain broader organizational perspective in decision making.

Execute internal control programs established by management, research new regulations, and recommend and implement approved changes. May manage compliance program for areas of responsibility and create complex compliance reports.

Develop reports and presentations of complex financial data and metrics for management and third parties.

Participate as a member of a project team; support new initiatives. Make decisions determining approach to managing and completing processes.

Contribute to unit and organization strategy; assist in the development of change management plans and materials as needed.

Develop and maintain desktop procedures and process documentation for area of responsibility.

Define requirements, develop and implement complex test cases, perform system testing and analyze results.

Participate in critical analysis of existing systems and processes and identify opportunities for process improvement.

Provide consulting advice to client group(s); serve as a resource on matters that require specific technical, financial, or subject matter expertise; support negotiations with external partners.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

Bachelor’s degree and five years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.

Advanced proficiency in business applications, such as Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel.

Demonstrated knowledge of financial systems; internet and computer expertise.

Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Strong communication skills, including ability to prepare materials for and clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences and client groups.

Demonstrated project management skills and ability to contribute to or lead part of a multi-functional team.

Demonstrated commitment to promoting and supporting an environment of diversity and inclusion

Additional preferred requirements include:

Ability to safeguard confidential information.

Experience working with Human Resources (personnel and position) data and labor schedules.

Knowledge of university-specific finance and accounting principles.

Knowledge of gift terminology and policies.

Advanced knowledge of Stanford’s financial systems, particularly Oracle Business Intelligence.

The expected pay range for this position is $111,640 – $129,130 per annum.Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position.
