The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.JOB PURPOSE:Perform facilities engineering responsibilities that ensure critical facilities are reliable, dependable and available for IT systems hosted therein. Responsibilities will involve the planning, design, construction, modification, operation, maintenance, and utilities that support critical facilities. May serve as project leader in area of expertise for a major group of ongoing, technically complex projects with large budgets and requiring substantial coordination.CORE DUTIES:

Perform regular physical inspections of all building systems commonly found in a data center or mission critical facility environments such as mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire life and safety, etc.

Respond to and address facility problems as directed by data center manager. This may require occasional in-person response outside normal working hours.

Provide assessment, design, and technical recommendations in support of critical facilities availability; may include development and implementation.

Develop and define scopes of work and estimates.

Conduct risk assessments and develop contingency plans on less complex activities.

Plan, research, formulate, and prepare project analyses in area of expertise.

Prepare, review, and analyze projects' technical plans and specifications for sound design, conformance with design guidelines and other related criteria, and pertinent codes or standards.

Manage design activity or projects in area of expertise, and/or manage contractor activities.

Represent department on specific project teams and review committees.

Participate in department maintenance activities.

Other duties may be assigned.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:Education and ExperienceBachelor's degree in relevant engineering discipline. Minimum five years of directly related experience working in or in direct support of data centerenvironments. Experience managing multiple projects at a time.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesThis position reports to the unit manager of the University IT (UIT), Technical Facilities Department. The candidate will be a member of a team, which is responsible for the planning, management, construction and maintenance of UIT computing facilities and associated infrastructure. This includes but is not limited to: Two large computing facilities (approximately 25K square feet), nine geographically distributed Electronic Communications Hubs (approximately 18K square feet).This position will assist with overseeing the operational maintenance and construction of the building infrastructure and associated systems that directly support the University’s highly specialized and mission critical computing facilities. These systems include, but are not limited to UPS and DC power systems, building security systems, power distribution systems, mechanical, plumbing and other systems commonly found in a data center or mission critical facility environments. Candidates should have knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems such as: power distribution units, UPS, VFDs, CRAC/CRAH, Air Handlers, etc., including building management systems for Tridium Niagara DDC or Emerson DeltaV platforms. This position shall assist with coordinating and overseeing maintenance and construction activities necessary to maintain and/or upgrade the building infrastructure systems to ensure maximum uptime for internal and external customer equipment that resides in these facilities. Candidates must be highly self-motivated with strong technical analytic skills. They must have the ability to assess risk and evaluate alternatives to reduce risk.This position shall participate in and assist with supporting project planners that include collecting estimates for projects, tracking of project budget, support project activities, and subsequent maintenance of systems in accordance with SLAs etc. Candidates should have experience in project management and be able to demonstrate specific attention to detail. They must have the ability to use good judgment under pressure, convey information well in both written and oral form, and work in a team environment. This position will be required to collect and maintain reports and records for existing system architecture, current capacity levels, and ongoing maintenance and refresh cycle data.This position will assist with implementing plans to support disaster preparedness and recovery, as well as maintaining building security plans and access procedures. Candidate should have basic understanding of emergency situations and escalation processes.Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook and familiarity with Adobe Acrobat, Visio or AutoCad. Candidate should have good understanding of Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) systems with StruxureWare Data Center Operations and Data Center Expert, and Panduit Synapsense systems.Certificates and LicensesMust have and maintain a valid California Drivers License.Data Center or Facility Management related certification desiredPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Frequently sitting, perform desk-based computer tasks, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.

Occasionally stand/walk, twist/bend/stoop/squat, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, use a telephone, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 11-40 pounds.

Rarely kneel/crawl, climb (ladders, scaffolds, or other), reach/work above shoulders, grasp forcefully, writing by hand, sort/file paperwork or parts, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh >40 pounds.

Requires 24-hour response availability seven days per week for emergency situations. Must be able to travel to data center facilities from place of residence within 45 minutes.

Requires participation on the department’s On-Call rotation schedule.

Requires work after business hours and weekend work on occasion for maintenance and/or project related activities.

Requires travel to multiple facilities as needed.

May be exposed to noise > 80dB TWA.

May work at heights 4 - 10 ft.

Normal working hours for this position is 8:00am to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday. Requires candidates to work onsite. Remote work limited and subject to management approval.
