Shorenstein Asia-Pacific Research Center (Shorenstein APARC) addresses critical issues affecting the countries of Asia, their regional and global affairs, and U.S.-Asia relations. As Stanford University’s hub for the interdisciplinary study of contemporary Asia, we produce policy-relevant research, provide education and training to students, scholars, and practitioners, and strengthen dialogue and cooperation between counterparts in the Asia-Pacific and the United States.The China Program at Stanford University’s Walter H. Shorenstein Asia-Pacific Research Center (Shorenstein APARC) conducts multidisciplinary, social science-focused research on contemporary China, emphasizing both foundational and policy-relevant studies. The program prepares Stanford students for meaningful interactions with China, aiming to encourage current and future leaders to engage with China with nuance and understanding and provide fact-based inquiry into contemporary China and U.S.-China relations. We do this through our research projects and teaching and by hosting conferences and public forums, facilitating exchanges with Chinese experts, and offering training opportunities and educational programs for officials and professionals.Our VPDoR Diversity Journey :

POSITION SUMMARY:The Shorenstein APARC Center seeks a China Program Coordinator to join our team in exploring the complex world of academic research and public policy by providing administrative and program support. The individual will have the opportunity to be a part of organizing an intellectual exchange among leading scholars, experts, policymakers, professionals, business and civil society leaders, and students addressing critical contemporary policy issues. Program activities include organizing Japan Colloquia Series, conferences, public seminars and the related administrative tasks.The China Program Coordinator will provide administrative or operational support to the China Program Director and Associate Director for Administration with limited supervision.This is a 100% FTE, benefits-eligible position. The position supports the China Program for 50% FTE and provides general support for the wider Walter H. Shorenstein Asia Pacific Research Center for 50% FTE.For consideration, please provide resume and cover letter. Act on behalf of the supervisor, department manager, or chair in regards to establishing priorities and identifying and resolving problems that are administrative in nature.

Oversee and/or perform duties associated with scheduling, organizing, and operating complex conferences, seminars, and events, including arranging with vendors for services, overseeing the production and distribution of materials, administering logistics, and managing event within budget.

Compose and draft documents and correspondence for presentations, course handouts, grants, conferences, seminars, and reports; perform substantial editing and fact checking. Create, maintain, modify, and/or ensure accuracy of content in various unit documents, displays, reports, brochures, social media, and/or websites.

Plan and schedule calendar(s) with limited consultation, resolve calendaring conflicts, and arrange travel in compliance with unit, university, and sponsor policies.

Create complex reports and spreadsheets which may utilize specialized software and systems.

Oversee and/or process a variety of complex financial transactions; produce, monitor, and reconcile budget statements; research, identify, and resolve discrepancies. May assist with capital or special equipment requests and/or vendor selection.

Coordinate and monitor routine maintenance services completion.Plan and coordinate office moves and/or minor renovation projects.

May lead staff or supervise day-to-day work of student and/or temporary workers, including scheduling, assigning, and prioritizing workloads, setting appropriate deadlines, reviewing work for quality and timeliness, and providing performance review input

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:Education & Experience:High school diploma and four years of administrative experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.Desired Qualifications:A graduate degree in relevant field is preferred.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Chinese language fluency is required for this position.

Advanced computer skills and demonstrated experience with office software and email applications.

Onsite/Hybrid:The expected pay range for this position is $39.46 to $44.30 per hour.Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position.
