Flag Ranch in Paso Robles
Part-time large animal (primarily horses) feeding and barn chores
Flag Ranch (flagranch.org) is a working sanctuary ranch just 15 minutes outside of Paso Robles, and we’re looking for a committed team member for whom animal care is more than just a job. Home to large and small animals including 49 horses, 7 minis, 9 chickens, 4 dogs, many cats, 2 sheep, 3 goats, a miniature pig, and another very large (but sweet) pig, we value partnership between humans and non-human beings, and between the human members of our team.
Hours:
Estimated standard weekly hours: 20
Saturday and Sunday mornings and afternoons, and Wednesday mornings
Duties:
Preparing and feeding hay and mash
Mucking around barns, paddocks and shelters
Herd check
Weekly pasture and fence check
Assist vet, trimmer, and other horse care providers as needed
Administer medications/bandages as needed
Note: No horseback riding is involved, all work is done on foot or with off-road vehicles.
Requirements:
Industrious, strong, responsible, and caring
Comfortable around large animals that are beautiful and intelligent but can be unpredictable and potentially dangerous
Self-starter, accountable, able to work safely without supervision
Willing to work outdoors in all types of weather
Able to lift, push or pull heavy loads (50-100 lbs)
Some experience with excellent references required
Must have own reliable transportation and cell phone
No drug use/no tolerance, no smoking on site
Eligible to work in the U.S.
Compensation:
Hourly pay, based on experience, performance and longevity / commitment to our work and mission, starting at $16.50/hour.
