The Assistant Supervisor will assist in planning, directing and supervising all activities associated with the operation under the supervision of the Unit Supervisor. The position is responsible for ensuring that high professional standards are demonstrated in areas such as training and supervision of employees, optimal customer service, sanitation, cash handling, scheduling, production control, inventory levels, preventative maintenance, and a safe working environment. Recommends new products, stays current with the outside market and customer trends. May supervise up to 15 student assistants at a time.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school degree or the equivalent
Coffee experience highly desirable
Minimum of one year food, retail or hospitality experience necessary, two years preferred
Must be able to operate a cash register, steam wells, microwaves, knives, warmer drawers, beverage machines, can opener, bag sealer, blenders and/or general restaurant equipment
Must be able to understand oral and written communication, have a good knowledge of principles, techniques, terminology and procedures of a short order good service operation, related safety and sanitation standards and effective personnel supervision
Ability to develop successful working relationships with customers, employees and supervisors
Become ServSafe certified within the first year of service and maintain certification as required
Ability to perform complex, highly responsible and confidential duties
Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel
Ability to prioritize, plan, organize, and meet time lines
Ability to lead others in managing tasks; train and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationship with others
Excellent verbal and written skills and the ability to interface with all levels of staff, Board of Directors, university community, including students, faculty and staff, and the public
Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy
Ability to maintain regular and reliable attendance
Possession of a valid California Drivers License and satisfactory driving record
Positions are 10-month appointments, with summers and academic breaks off unless work is available.
