Job Description Summary
The Research Assistant conducts specific research protocols associated with assigned research projects related to health by assisting with screening and assessment of study participants, data collection processes and some basic data analysis. The Research Assistant supports the research unit in activities of recruitment, enrollment and follow-up of study subjects. Assists with research, maintains accurate and timely input of research data, and provides quality management oversight of records. All essential functions performed in this position reflect the age and culture-specific needs of the English and Spanish-speaking participants. The position is for 32-40 hours per week determined at hire.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree preferred
High school diploma or equivalent required
Experience with clinical research desirable
Phlebotomy certification highly preferred
Bilingual Spanish/English required
Must be willing and able to travel to research locations within San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties
Willingness to work on some evening or weekends as required.
Must possess a valid California driver’s license, satisfactory driving record, and vehicle insurance
Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel
Experience with statistical software (e.g., SAS, SPSS, R) is preferred
Ability to prioritize, plan, organize, and meet time lines
Ability to lead others in managing tasks; train and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationship with others
Excellent verbal and written skills and the ability to interface with all levels of staff, Board of Directors, university community, including students, faculty and staff, and the public
Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy
Ability to maintain regular and reliable attendance
A background check is required for all regular benefited positions
The person holding this position is considered a ‘mandated reporter’ under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment

Typical Essential Functions
Recruit and screen participants
Assist in the development and adaptation of assessment protocols for English and Spanish speakers
Review assessment documents for accuracy and completeness
Administer and collect measurements from participants
Maintain accurate and timely input of research data and provide quality management oversight of records
Assist in IRB submission
Assist in ongoing project activities
Help with on-boarding student workers
Obtain informed consent from participants
Schedule and conduct follow-up assessments
Schedule team meetings on zoom or in-person
Entering data collection instruments in RedCap
Visually inspect all data for completeness
Conduct clinic-based or at-home assessments, as needed
Travel to San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara and Ventura counties to conduct assessments
Perform other duties assigned
