Robert Half is looking for a Veterans Services Specialist position to join a company based in San Luis Obispo. As the certifying official for Veterans' Educational Benefits, you will play a crucial role in supporting veterans and eligible dependents in accessing educational benefits and services. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders, including the Veterans Administration (VA) and other student support programs. This will be a temporary / contract position.

Responsibilities:

- Serve as the designated "certifying official" for Veterans' Educational Benefits

- Receive, review, and process applications from veterans and eligible dependents

- Collaborate closely with the Veterans Administration (VA) to ensure accurate and timely processing of applications

- Plan, organize, and conduct orientations, presentations, and workshops to promote services

- Coordinate with other on and off-campus student support programs

-Monitor student enrollment and educational plans in relation to benefit eligibility

- Analyze academic records and documentation to determine eligibility for benefits

- Provide guidance to veterans on discrepancies affecting eligibility

- Determine eligibility according to federal, state, or local regulations

- Ensure compliance with federal reporting requirements for all veterans' educational benefits programs

- Assist students in resolving eligibility issues based on their GI Bill

- Process fee waivers for veterans under various programs such as the Veterans Administration Vocational Rehabilitation program

- Plan and organize program-related events and outreach activities for veterans

- Collaborate with District personnel, community organizations, and governmental agencies to exchange information for veterans

- Represent the company at local, regional, state, national conferences, and committees

- Maintain current knowledge of laws, regulations, policies, and procedures related to veteran benefit eligibility programs

- Analyze policies and procedures to ensure compliance

- Create, update, and maintain various forms, reference materials, and documents

Requirements:

- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field preferred

- Experience working with veterans or in a related field preferred

- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

- Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders

- Previous experience with Higher Education a huge plus!

- Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations related to veterans' educational benefits

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software applications
