Job Title: Staff Accountant

Location: San Luis Obispo

Position Type: Part Time, Non-Exempt (approximately 10-15 hours per week)

Compensation & Support: $28-$34/hour

About Meals That Connect

Meals That Connect is a nonprofit 501c3 with a mission to enhance health, restore dignity, support independence, and reduce isolation for every San Luis Obispo County resident in need who is at least 60 years of age by providing meaningful connections and free, hot, noon-time meals delivered to community dining sites or at home. Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and reliable Nonprofit Bookkeeper to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing accounts payable and receivable, and supporting day-to-day accounting operations. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to the mission and values of our organization. The organization budget is approximately $2M with about 40 employees located throughout San Luis Obispo County.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Recordkeeping:

Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records using accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks).

Record all financial transactions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries.

Reconcile bank statements and ensure the accuracy of financial data.

Payroll processing and records organization.

Grant financial reports, budgets.

Accounts Payable and Receivable:

Process invoices, purchase orders, and expense reimbursements in a timely manner.

Prepare and issue payments to vendors and contractors, ensuring compliance with payment terms and contractual agreements.

Monitor accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding invoices to facilitate timely collections.

Budget Monitoring and Reporting:

Assist in the preparation of financial reports, including budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses.

Track expenses and revenue against budget allocations and provide regular updates to the finance team.

Support grant reporting and compliance by maintaining accurate financial records and documentation.

Payroll Processing:

Manage the organization's payroll process from start to finish, ensuring timely and accurate payments to employees.

Calculate and process payroll deductions, including taxes, benefits, and other withholdings.

Address any payroll-related inquiries or discrepancies from employees.

Stay informed about changes in payroll regulations and compliance requirements.

Financial Compliance:

Account reconciliations, and budgets: Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and internal financial policies.

Assist with audits and financial reviews by providing accurate documentation and supporting schedules.

Stay informed about changes in accounting principles and regulations affecting nonprofit organizations.

Administrative Support:

Provide administrative support to the finance team, including filing, data entry, and record management.

Assist with special projects and initiatives as needed to support the organization's financial goals and objectives.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, economics, or a related field. Relevant experience with less education may be considered in lieu of a bachelor's degree.

Minimum 3 years of experience in bookkeeping or accounting, preferably in a nonprofit or similar environment.

Experience in nonprofit and grant accounting preferred

Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks) and Microsoft Excel.

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
