The DSP (Direct Service Professional) must have a high school diploma. Must be well organized, efficient, and interact with persons with mental/developmental disabilities in a caring and empathetic way. A California DL with no limitations, restrictions, or moving violations within the past 12 months is required. The Vocational Instructor/Food Pantry Driver must meet all current state health certification requirements as listed in the Staff Policy Manual.
SUPERVISION
The DSP (Direct Service Professional) is under the direct supervision of the Department Head to which they are assigned. The DSP (Direct Service Professional) is also responsible for the supervision of each person served assigned to them.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The essential functions of the DSP (Direct Service Professional) include job coaching/modeling, supervision, documentation, and instructing individuals with mental and/or developmental disabilities in the safe and effective use of tools and equipment.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The DSP (Direct Service Professional) specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
1. Provide vocational instruction and assistance to each person served, assuring that training is in accordance with program plans, and that each person served works to their fullest potential.
2. Provide training of safe, proper, and efficient use of tools and equipment to each person served under their supervision.
3. Assist in setting up tools and equipment for each person served work assignments.
4. Help develop and implement techniques to instruct each person served that will be used to achieve their stated vocational goals.
5. Monitor quality control, keep necessary records, and track performance of each person served, reflecting their performance in the worksite, or in the community when assigned.
6. Serve as a good vocational role model for each person served to imitate through participation in vocational activities, and assist in the development of appropriate work skills, habits, and behaviors in each person served.
7. Provide assistance to each person served with disruptive, or behavior issues.
8. Assist in employment and social skills assessment of each person served.
9. Assist in planning, advising and correcting safety concerns.
10. Assume other activities that may arise in the development and enhancement of the position.
Starting hourly wage will be a minimum of $17.00 per hour. The wage range for this position is $17.00 to $20.00 per hour with raises based on longevity, performance, and the facility's ability to accommodate pay increases. This position is not exempt from payment of overtime wages as provided in the Fair Labor Standards Act.
The Siskiyou Opportunity Center is private nonprofit for the developmentally disabled. Our main mission is to provide job training and services for our disabled workforce. We accomplish it through our work at the Rest Areas, janitorial contracts, recycling, and our day programs.
You must work well with others, including our disabled. Applicants will be required to have a drug test and a background check. Upon hiring, applicants will be required to provide a DMV printout with no serious infractions. Only completed SOC applications or resumes will be accepted. Position will remain open until the right candidate is hired. Our insurance company requires you to be at least 21 years or older to drive a company vehicle, as you may be asked to drive some of our disabled clients.
