We are Vought Construction - award winning luxury home builders located in Berkeley. I founded this company in 2010 at the age of 21 as a handyman and I’ve built it into one of the best companies around. I’m looking for someone with that kind of ambition that wants to grow and build themselves and the company. I will teach you everything there is to become a great builder and how to run a company. I really don’t mind if you use it and go off to start your own company. That’s what I did with my mentor. All I ask is that you give me a few good years and help with training your replacement.
Here is what I expect of you:
I need someone that has carpentry experience and tools. You will be working in the field at first. If you want to move up as a lead carpenter, superintendent, or project manager I can teach you how to do that and I can teach you fast if you want to learn.
Show up on time. My day is planned out and it depends on being able to meet people on site without delay. When people show up late it has a cascading effect on my day. Everybody is late sometimes but you have to communicate as soon as you know you are going to be late. Communication is key in all facets of a company.
Be proficient at reading plans.
Be computer savvy. Construction is not done by fax machines and paper anymore. It’s done by emails and CRM software. We use BuilderTrend to manage and cost track the jobs. You will need to keep track of your time with the app. No more paper time cards.
Above all you have to be efficient and make the company money. I'm not asking you to kill yourself by any means. Our employees have it pretty good and that's why they been with me from the start. However, I need you to work smart and take pride in what you do. I’d like you to be involved in discussions about budget and goals. So many employees want nothing to do with this. That doesn’t work to build a company. This knowledge is essential if you want to be your own boss some day or to just be the best employee in construction. This company can give bonuses and take care of you and your family very well as long as it’s prosperous.
The pay in the company varies from the lowest paid laborers at $25/hr to the superintendent at $60/hr. If you already have a contractor's license and want to be paid as a contractor, I'm fine with that also or we can put you on the payroll. Your experience and drive will set your pay. I don't really have much need for an unskilled laborer at this time though. I’m also willing to pay for classes if you want to learn anything in the construction field. I can teach you any of the trades as well. I know how to build homes extremely well. We also have other benefits like health insurance, company vehicle, company phone, tool purchasing programs, and whatever you need to help you become the best.
