Senior Facilities Technician

leads the industry in developing new applications and markets for

As our next Sr. Facilities Technician, you will primarily serve our Pilot

Plant in Belmont, with additional support for our R&D facility in South

San Francisco as needed. Reporting to the Pilot Plant Manager, you will

focus on the operational aspects of the Pilot Plant, including repairs,

maintenance, coordination with vendors, inventory management, and execution

of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) initiatives in line with company

policies and standards.

Essential Job Functions :

Engage in hands-on work and execute projects or initiatives with

focus on preventive measures instead of reactive solutions

Plan daily schedule for facilities in advance, with flexibility to

adjust when needed

Perform daily walk-throughs and support all facility areas (labs,

utility areas, and offices).

Conduct routine maintenance of utility systems and specific

equipment (e.g. biochemistry analyzers, lyophilizers, ultra-low

temperature freezers, incubators, shakers, chillers, air

compressors, chillers, and cryogenic storage dewars)

Troubleshoot utility and equipment issues and perform minor

repairs when feasible

Coordinate preventive maintenance and repairs for utility systems

and equipment (e.g. air compressors, vacuums, chillers, RODI water

system, and UPS systems)

Oversee third-party contractors as needed

Ensure optimal functioning of building systems (e.g HVAC and

fire/life safety equipment) with property management

Assist with new equipment installations - including connecting

power, gas, steam, air, and water supplies.

Ensure proper connection and storage of building gas supplies and

compressed gas cylinders

Ensure safe and proper relocation of equipment and verify

operational status post-relocation

Operate forklift, lift jacks, pallet jacks, and floor lift

equipment (training provided)

Schedule annual testing and certifications for biosafety cabinets

and chemical hoods

Schedule annual calibrations for pipettes and benchtop and floor

scales

Manage shipping and receiving for inbound and outbound shipments

Conduct inventory management of lab consumables, ensuring

appropriate stock levels

Ensure vendor alignment for goods and/or services

Provide EHS support as directed - including assistance with safety

inspections and implementation of EHS initiatives

Maintain accurate chemical and equipment inventories

Ensure proper handling and storage of laboratory chemicals

Manage chemical waste storage and disposal

Monitor status of critical equipment and respond to alarm

notifications

Occasionally perform deliveries between South San Francisco and

Belmont facilities

Serve as a primary contact for facilities emergencies with timely

onsite response that is reasonable, relative to your point of

departure

Occasional weekend or holiday work may be required

Minimum Qualifications :

Completion of high school/GED, supplemented with course work

and/or certifications in the electrical and/or mechanical trades

Minimum of 5 years of experience in general building maintenance

within a lab setting, pilot plant or similar environment

Familiar with general facility and laboratory safety practices

Excellent verbal/written communication skills

Must be proactive and detail oriented

Ability to work under pressure and resolve issues promptly and

diligently

Ability to work independently, as well as interact productively

with vendors and colleagues in R&D, Pilot Plant, Facilities

and EHS.

Awareness and knowledge of Environmental Health and Safety needs

for facilities and laboratory settings, as well as ability to

implement EHS initiatives

Must have valid driver's license

Demonstrated experience in Microsoft Office: Excel, Word,

PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams

Preferred Qualifications:

Associates degree in maintenance or relevant field

Prior experience with larger utilities equipment such as HVAC,

CDA, steam boilers and chillers

Prior experience in inventory management, laboratory environment,

or biotechnology environment

OSHA general industry training certification preferred

Physical Demands :

The work is performed mainly in the General Office Environment and Pilot

Plant areas where PPE is required. Through the course of a typical

workday, an individual in this position will perform the following

activities:

Sitting, occasionally - 15%

Walking/ moving, frequently - 50%

Reaching overhead, bending, kneeling, squatting, stooping,

regularly - 25%

Carrying/ lifting, light weights (<50 lbs), occasionally - 10%

The below range reflects the range of possible compensation for this

role at the time of this posting. This range may be modified in the

future. An employee’s title and position within the salary range will

be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant

education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills,

seniority, performance, and business or organizational needs. The base

compensation range for this role is $31.35/hour to $33.66/hour.
