Job description:

This is a pool and spa cleaning and repair business. You drive your truck safely from pool to pool testing chemicals, emptying skimmer baskets/leaf canisters. Brushing and netting pools. Dealing with gates and dogs. You park in a way that does not block anyone. You take a photo to show your work. You report ANY abnormality to me. You close the gate behind you.

Why I'm doing this: A lot of pool business-owners make the same mistake; they underpay their employees. They pay them $18-24 an hour while the employer is generating more than $100 per hour. Many long-time workers in the field are retiring. These facts create an opportunity in this field. I will teach you this trade and guide you through what is needed as far insurance, licenses and pool supply warehouses.

I don’t plan on creating dead end jobs for people. I owned my own business in this trade after one year of working in the field for someone else and you could do the same.

It is my intention to have someone work for me for as long as they need to know and thoroughly understand the business. After that, the right person would have the opportunity to purchase a part of my business that they helped me build. They will be able to make payments on this purchase through what they earn, and eventually own their own business outright. You can also try this out for a few months, and decide if you REALLY love just doing the work and don’t want to be your own boss or move forward with a purchase. We can discuss paying even more to make everyone whole down the road. The reason I am looking to offer this opportunity to someone is so that while you are earning a lot per hour and learning a lucrative trade, I can focus on the repair/ installation / green pool cleanup and startup side of things.

The MOST important qualification is that you SHOW UP every time you are scheduled and do your best. The heart of the value of my business is consistency. My clients pay for consistency not perfection. I need you to show up 48 weeks a year. This means 4 weeks of paid vacation, year 1. If you are someone who needs to stay home from the slightest sniffle or a scratch on your hand, this is not for you. The days are set, but you can choose your own (daylight) hours. We are out working in the rain/smoke/cold/heat/uneven ground/wind/steep hills/heavy tools/oxidizing chemicals/etc. We often work less hours in the day than 8. We are paid by jobs completed not hours. IF you are someone who likes impromptu days off and hopes someone can cover for you… this is not for you. NO one can cover for you. I am a one-man business with about 60 clients I service every week.

Compensation: I will pay you 40% of the profit for every job you complete by yourself to start. After 90 days of successful pool cleaning we can discuss an even higher percentage. There is a dollar amount we charge the client, we take out tax and chemicals and split the profit 60me/40you. If the client calls back and I have to correct your mistake you do not get paid for that job. Depending on how long it takes you to complete the pools in a day, your hourly rate would average from $35 to $50 an hour or more. That’s not including extra jobs like filter cleans and potentially helping me with repairs. I am ready for the right someone to start servicing 15 of my clients. 10 Tuesday and 5 Friday (right now is busy season, many people are signing up). Those 15 clients take me a total of about 16 hours a MONTH to work them. Your %40 cut of those clients would be $750 a month. The more clients we keep and add to the list the more we all make. I also have several extra jobs lining up. Every year we increase our rates between 3-5%.

Training: You ride along with me in my truck as I show you the day-to-day work. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9:30 am until the route is done. It will likely take approximately 3-5 weeks for a handy beginner to learn the basics of pool cleaning. I will not be able to pay anything during this time. Filter cleaning is an additional service we provide. You need to learn this. Most clients have a filter that needs to be cleaned once a year. After you learn this skill, you will make $60 per completed filter clean. You will need a simple inexpensive business license and pool and spa professionals business insurance.

(If you are already a pool professional you will still need to go through a training period with me.)

Interview process: Send me a version of a resume that you think makes sense. I am open-minded as to your experience. I am hiring for attitude/ personality not necessarily experience. We will have a Zoom call/ FaceTime conversation. If that goes well, we can schedule an outdoor in-person meeting. If that goes well the journey begins for both of us!
