Heavy Equipment Operator – Environmental Remediation

Locations: Richmond, CA (Northern California)

Company Overview

Costera Waste & Environmental, Inc. is a fast-growing environmental services company specializing in hazardous waste transportation, disposal, and field services throughout California. We are seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team and support critical environmental remediation and construction projects.

Position Summary

The Heavy Equipment Operator will be responsible for operating excavators, wheel loaders, skid steers, and other heavy equipment to support environmental remediation and construction activities. This position requires frequent travel throughout California and the ability to work on complex projects such as remedial excavations, underground storage tank removals, grading, backfill, and compaction.

Pay and Schedule

Pay Range: $40 – $50 per hour, depending on experience

Overtime: Paid after 8 hours/day

Double Time: Paid after 12 hours/day

Standard Schedule: Monday – Friday, 6:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Significant overtime opportunities, including prevailing wage projects (higher hourly pay and fringe benefits)

Key Responsibilities

Safely operate heavy equipment including excavators, wheel loaders, and skid steers in support of environmental remediation projects.

Perform remedial excavation, grading, backfill, and compaction.

Execute underground storage tank (UST) removals and related site work.

Install and work with various shoring systems including hydraulic shoring, trench boxes, slide rail systems, and sheet pile systems.

Follow all safety and environmental compliance protocols.

Conduct daily inspections of equipment and report any maintenance needs.

Work collaboratively with project managers, field crews, and subcontractors.

Maintain detailed attention to site safety, productivity, and quality of work.

Qualifications

5–10 years of heavy equipment operating experience in the environmental remediation or construction industry (required).

Proficiency in operating excavators, wheel loaders, skid steers, and other earthmoving equipment.

Experience with shoring systems (hydraulic shoring, trench boxes, slide rail, sheet pile).

Knowledge of remedial excavation, UST removals, grading, backfill, and compaction.

40-hour HAZWOPER training preferred.

First Aid/CPR certification preferred.

Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) strongly preferred.

Ability to travel frequently throughout California for project assignments.

Strong work ethic, positive attitude, attention to detail, and ability to work independently or in a team environment.
