Dream job for the RC car enthusiast based in South Bay / Peninsula are

California, San francisco bay area 00000 San francisco bay area USA

Once in a very long time, something that “sounds too good to be true” turns out to actually be true. That’s the case with this job.

After 15 years of joyful involvement in the RC car hobby, I have decided to move on to other hobbies. I have a garage full of at least $40,000 worth of RC cars, trucks, motors, ESCs, batteries, chargers, remotes, bodies, accessories, parts and more (a lot of stuff is new in box!). There are at least 25 complete cars, most of which need little more than 20-30 min of TLC to be in running condition (a tire here, a driveshaft there, etc). However, all that good stuff is a little… jumbled up, to say the least. I want all this excellent equipment to end up in the hands of people who will enjoy it, but in its current state, I can’t really sell or even give away anything. Everything is too incomplete and/or mixed up.

What I need: a helper/assistant/fellow RC enthusiast who can help untangle the jumble, reassemble the cars and trucks, clean up the various in-progess projects, and help make sense of the madness. Then, I need that person to help list and sell the sellable stuff, or give away the small stuff, so all of it ends up in good hands. My goal is not necessarily to make a profit but rather to ensure that all this excellent high-quality equipment gets into the hands of people who will make use of it. I don’t want anything to go to waste or to end up in a landfill.

So here’s where you come on. On some regular basis that suits your schedule, you will visit the garage. You will tackle one section, or corner, or container, or project at a time. Initially, we’ll need to make some sense of chaos and just separate things in categories, and store things so we can get a clear view of what we have. Later, we’ll actually assemble/build things so they become complete RTR packages. In some cases, we’ll clean up and package a project and let someone else complete it (we’ll need to find a person who wants the item, of course).

Who are you?

You are someone who has or meets the following attributes/criteria:

1. You live OR work within approximately 15 miles of 94303 (apologies in advance to all the wonderful folks who don’t live near me, but I’ve been through this sort of process on Craigslist before, and you just need to trust me - if you are 45 min away, or 60 min away, and never have your own reasons for coming to Palo Alto, this just isn’t going to work from a logistical perspective - you won’t be happy).

2. You are conversant with surface RC - cars, trucks, on-road, off-road, all scales from mini and micro to very large (1/18th to 1/5th). You understand the electronics, the radios, the motors, the batteries, the bodies, the wheels, the tires, etc. In short, you are a hardcore RC fan. You have assembled at least one kit from most major manufacturers (Tekno, Tamiya, Losi, Traxxas, HPI, etc)

3. You are very reliable and dependable. You can work on this project with me on almost any schedule that suits you, but you always do what you say. No last minute changes apart from legitimate emergencies (which happen, but rarely).

4. You have a massive passion for RC and absolutely love this stuff. Working on cars will give you joy, and you’ll wonder how on earth you’re getting paid to do what you love anyway (at times, it won’t be quite that much fun, like when you’re sorting through parts to find just the right items, and you’ll be glad you’re getting paid then)

5. You have a vehicle of your own

6. You can be any age (16 and above). If you’re under 18, you’ll need to provide written permission from your parents. However, the job is quite suitable even for someone in high school, as there’s nothing dangerous or overly complex. This is all about toys, after all.

7. You can spend about 10 hrs a week on this, on the low end (more time is also ok).

Compensation starts at $25/hr and goes up from there based on your skill level. If you don't meet many of the criteria above but you would love this job, drop me a line anyway and we'll see if we can work things out. If you meet a lot of the criteria above, definitely drop me a line, and maybe compensation can go up.

The most important two things are:

a. you live or work nearby (within 15 miles of Palo Alto)

b. you love radio control cars

If you meet those two criteria, shoot me a note!

Thanks in advance and I look forward to hearing from you.

About me: professional adult, have a family, a little too busy, easy to work with, very chill, trying to avoid growing up.
