Set Construction/Custom Fabrication Carpenter/Installer

Established set building/custom fabrication firm seeking full time/part time/as needed scenic builder/carpenter/installers for advertising photo shoots and in-store displays. We are seeking experienced, motivated, and team-oriented individuals. Prior set building experience not required, but encouraged.

Strong carpentry skills are highly desired. A positive attitude, desire to learn and jump right in is greatly desired. We have been a leader in set/scenic fabrication in the Bay Area for over 20 years and are currently in a period of rapid growth and development. We are hiring for builders for immediate employment on an as-needed basis, part-time (at least 3 days a week), or full-time.

We design, source and fabricate set/scenic architecture for advertising photo shoots, in store displays and build-outs both on location, in our on-site rental photo studio and in our large fabrication shop located in Vallejo, CA. Self-transport is required as employees sometimes are assigned to begin work at offsite locations around the Bay Area. Early mornings, possible travel, evenings, weekends, and overtime are all parts of the role.

Responsibilities include fabrication, logistics, transport and installation of sets and scenic architectural elements as well as the striking and storage of set elements as needed. Projects are completed in teams and being able to work well with other people under tight deadlines is a must.

Significant carpentry experience is required. Set/scenic building experience is highly desired. The work environment is fast-paced and team-oriented, and requires excellent organizational skills, strong self motivation and the ability to adjust easily to changing expectations based on our client and company needs.

Desired Qualifications

3-5 years previous carpentry or scenic building experience required.

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, crouch, pull, bend, kneel, climb and reach for extended periods of time.

Carpentry and other building experience including familiarity with flooring installation, cabinet making, and painting highly desired. Furniture building, wallpapering, tile setting, welding, scenic painting skills a plus.

Intermediate knowledge of professional power tools used in a carpentry setting (i.e. table saw, sliding compound miter saw, screw gun/drill, router, pneumatic stapler/nailer, electric or pneumatic sander).

Ability to read and comprehend plans required to build and assemble scenery is required. Moderate mathematical ability also required to ensure accuracy and consistency when measuring and fabricating set elements.

Comfortable with communicating and processing information from our clients as needed.

Strong written and oral and interpersonal skills highly valued.

Valid driver’s license, good driving record, and background check required.

Team-oriented, curious, self-motivated and flexibility a must. We are growing and developing and seek candidates who are motivated by this.

Ability to work independently as needed and ability to multitask and show flexibility in a fast-paced environment.

Reliable transportation is required as employees are sometimes scheduled to start the day at an offsite location.

Must be able to build and maintain good working relationships with a diverse group of individuals and personalities. We greatly appreciate friendly, flexible and solution-oriented team members.

Willingness to expand and improve skills.

Detail-oriented.

Ability to drive 24’ box truck a plus.
