ABOUT THE ROLE

The Security Guard works as a part of the YBCA Security + Facilities team to ensure the safety and security for all staff, patrons and visitors of YBCA. This position reports directly to and works closely with the Security Manager in addressing the day-to-day and special events security operations of all YBCA facilities.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Monitor the entering and exiting of the facilities by YBCA staff and visitors.

Routinely patrol premises to detect signs of intrusion and ensure security of doors, windows, gates, etc. Maintain security of exhibitions and all other YBCA property.

Respond to alarms, emergencies, threats which may include the evacuation of the facility.

Attend required safety and emergency trainings.

Write Daily Activity Reports and/or End of Day shift reports. Prepare clear and detailed incident reports in the event of damage to property or injury to patrons or employees.

Monitor unauthorized persons or unusual occurrences utilizing cctv system.

Monitor both loading docks and provide traffic control for trucks while maintaining pedestrian safety.

Assist janitorial staff with pulling in and out trash receptacles from the dock area throughout the week.

Answer telephone calls, take messages and provide information from the Control Booth.

Maintain a high level of customer service towards visitors and employees.

Must be knowledgeable in de-escalation practices and techniques. Additional training is provided on site to staff.

Maintain a flexible schedule and be able to work evenings, weekends or holidays for special events.

Adhere to all YBCA policies, procedures and work rules, including policies on access and safety. Comply with all post orders and requirements.

All other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Skill in operating office equipment such as a personal computer, copy machine and telephone system.

This position requires a large amount of walking between buildings and on event sites and is on his/her feet consistently.

Ability to lift 50 pounds.

Ability to perform routine bending, stooping, twisting, and reaching.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position is primarily located at 701 Mission Street, San Francisco, however may require traveling to other locations or off-site meetings, event sites as required by the job.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

A current CA Guard Card is required.

Must be 21 or older with a High School degree or equivalent.

Minimum 2 year experience in building security or a related field.

Good oral and written English communication skills.

Must be able to write routine, comprehensive reports.

Must have critical thinking and active listening skills.

Strong judgment and decision making skills.

Bilingual skills are ideal.

Current Training in First Aid, CPR, self-defense and other safety-related issues desired.

Ability to react well under pressure and to use reason, even when dealing with emotional topics, and to manage difficult or high-pressured situations.

Able to work effectively with all staff, clients and the public, presenting a positive image of the organization.

Thrives in a highly collaborative environment that values diversity, equity, inclusion, and access, and works effectively with people of varied backgrounds, experiences, points of view, and aspirations.

Must be reliable, enthusiastic, flexible and possess a sense of humor.

Physically able to patrol building facilities.
