Department Description:
The Interpretive Centers and Sales Department is responsible for developing and operating visitor centers throughout the Golden Gate National Parks, providing visitor information, orientation, and other direct services. Conservancy Interpretive Centers provide educational, functional, and proprietary park merchandise along with changing park exhibits. The department develops park books, maps, and interpretive and branded products, manages warehousing and distribution, operates the Muir Woods Fee Collection program, and develops and operates the Conservancy’s online sales and wholesale programs. Interpretive Centers include Alcatraz Park Stores, Muir Woods Visitor Center, Lands End Lookout, Warming Hut, Fort Point Park Store, Golden Gate Bridge Welcome Center, and Presidio Visitor Center.
Position Overview:
This is a Seasonal position that can be full-time or part-time. The season ends September 30, 2025.
The Visitor Services Representative supports the Golden Gate National Parks by selling entrance tickets and interpretive merchandise and providing information to park visitors at the Muir Woods Visitor Center. All candidates must be willing to work a flexible schedule that may include weekends and holidays. Schedules may vary by season.
Reports To: Associate Director, Retail (Muir Woods)
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Collect park entrance fees.
Sell interpretive and educational merchandise in park visitor center.
Answer questions and disseminate information.
Provide exceptional visitor service.
Assist with merchandising and housekeeping functions.
Maintain positive & productive relations with park visitors, staff, & volunteers.
Other duties as assigned by manager.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must possess highly developed customer service skills.
Must enjoy working in a national park that is visited by up to 5000 people a day.
Must wear a uniform and adhere to appearance standards.
Must provide reliable transportation.
Previous cash handling experience preferred.
Retail or bookstore experience a plus.
Foreign language skills appreciated.
Education and/or Experience:
High school degree or equivalent preferred.
Previous retail or comparable experience working with the public.

Physical Requirements and Work Environments:
Work is performed in a retail, stockroom, and office setting.
Work is primarily performed standing with occasional sitting.
Work occasionally requires squatting, kneeling, walking, and climbing (short step ladder).
Work occasionally requires lifting, carrying, and positioning objects that weigh up to 50 pounds.
Pay Rate: $20/hour (Grade 7)
