Creative Retail Associate (Part-time, 4 days/week)

The East Bay Depot for Creative Reuse (www.creativereuse.org) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to divert waste materials from landfills by collecting and redistributing discarded, donated goods as lower-cost supplies for artists, educators and community members in our retail store, while educating the general public about the environmental benefits of reusing materials.

Job Description:

The Depot is seeking a friendly, energetic, dependable and attentive Retail Associate for our second-hand store. Your responsibilities will include ringing up items at the register, cleaning the store, organizing, accepting and sorting donated materials, restocking and pricing products.

To be successful you must have the energy to be on your feet for most of the day while maintaining a positive attitude. In practice you will always be friendly towards customers, able to remain professional in difficult circumstances and helpful to your teammates.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Greet customers in a friendly manner and help them locate items in the store as needed

Accept donated materials

Sort donations to be merchandised on the sales floor

Assist customers with payment at the store’s counter (operate POS system)

Maintain a safe, clean and welcoming look and feel in the store through dusting, cleaning, and restocking merchandise on the shelves

Other duties as assigned which may include receiving donations at the dock

Qualifications and Skills:

Desire to be in a culture of hard work, kindness and equity

Exceptional work ethic and attention to detail

Prior retail experience a plus

Knowledge of art supplies or second-hand items a plus

18+ years of age

Good verbal communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to work in a team and independently with minimum supervision

Willingness to learn about new items and procedures quickly

Ability to evaluate items and make pricing decisions within generalized framework

Ability to see what needs to be done, and do it (Trash is full? Empty it; Items dropped on floor? Pick up and put away, etc.)

Physical Requirements:

Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis.

Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, merchandise carts, rolling racks, fixtures, furniture dollies, platform trucks and carts, hand trucks and miscellaneous carts.

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Ability to perform various repetitive-motion tasks.

Comfortable climbing a ladder on occasion.

Schedule:

Thursday through Sunday, 12-6pm

(Please note: this position is an ongoing commitment, not just for the summer.)

Pay:

$20 per hour

Paid time off if working half time or more

Partial health insurance if working half time or more
