SLS has provided high-quality, free legal services to elderly residents of Santa Cruz and San Benito Counties since 1972. The highest priority of the organization is to defend the right of the elderly to quality health care, social integration, to secure their persons and property, and to be free of discrimination on the basis of age or disability.

Position Summary

SLS is seeking a Social Worker Supervisor candidate with an MSW who currently has a LCSW or can obtain this licensure within 120 of employment, with experience in organizational/community issues including knowledge of local community supports, housing options, etc. The Social Worker Supervisor will support the growth of a new interdisciplinary program aimed at enabling our legal services to become holistic and well rounded. This is a grant funded position, from April 2024 to April 2025, and may be terminated if the grant were to become unfunded. Hours and schedule are negotiable.

Primary Responsibilities

The Social Work Supervisor designs the multi-disciplinary practice approach for legal advocacy for our clients. The Supervisor develops and leads a team of social workers who collaborate with attorneys to advance the interests of our clients. The Supervisor supports the clinical work of the team, including setting and reviewing assessment standards. The Social Work Supervisor designs workflow paths and service delivery models for the social work team across multiple areas of our legal practice. The Social Work Supervisor will also provide training to staff on issues such as mental health, substance abuse, domestic violence, and housing navigation.

The Social Work Supervisor will join the Executive Director and two Supervising Attorneys to serve on the management team of our legal services program. The Supervisor also collaborates with the Executive Director on project management, helps maintain and grow funding resources, and manage various administrative aspects of the program. The position involves representing the organization in agency or community-led collaboratives to improve operations of systems in Santa Cruz and San Benito County serving the needs of the elderly.

Hiring, training, mentoring, coaching, and professional development of social work staff

Design social work services as part of a legal advocacy strategy in collaboration with Supervising Attorneys

Provide coverage for team members and carry a small caseload as needed by staffing resources

Provide clinical supervision to team members on a regular basis

Participate on SLS management team to oversee program operations

Participate and support program and organization-wide activities, including Race Equity Initiative

Potentially oversee and implement a social work intern program, if desired and timely.

May very rarely be needed to provide courtroom testimony and written declarations, as appropriate

Develop relationships with other Community Based Organizations to meet the needs of clients.

Design and create trainings for the SLS team

Provide technical assistance to attorneys and service providers

Competencies and Qualifications

Must Have

Masters in Social work and Active Licensed Clinical Social Worker in California or ability to obtain licensure within 120 days of beginning employment

Experience with race equity work preferred

Knowledge of and experience with systems of care that serve the elderly, ideally in California and Santa Cruz and/or San Benito County

Ability to work independently and be self-motivated

Excellent verbal, interpersonal, writing, interviewing, and organizational skills

Valid Driver’s License, with good driving

Preferred

Background in working in the fields of elderly abuse and neglect

Supervision experience preferred

Experience working with individuals from multi-ethnic communities desired

Bi-lingual ability and/or bi-cultural background preferred

The employee is required to sit, walk and stand for extended periods of time. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. The employee must be able to work for 8 hours in close quarters with other employees. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Compensation

This half-time position starts with a Salary at $30,000 – $40,000, depending on experience. This is a part-time position and does include a generous benefit package, if 20 hours a week is performed. Part-time employment less than 20 hours are non-benefitted positions.
