This is a contract position

The Coalition on Homelessness, San Francisco was organized in 1987 to garner the active participation of poor people and front-line staff on the design, critique and implementation of public policy and services that result in permanent solutions to poverty. It is a unique organization in that the driving force is low income and homeless people, working in every aspect of the organization, from the volunteers to the staff and leadership body.

Our City Our Home, passed in November of 2018, is a tax on corporate income above $50 million that must be spent on housing, shelter, prevention and behavioral health for unhoused people. This initiative has led to thousands of people being housed, but is currently under attack and facing a potential overturn at the November ballot. This position would lead a campaign to shore up support for the measure, educate the public on its success and support an electoral campaign in November if needed.

Pull together data on success of measure through research of public documents.

Conduct outreach to currently and formerly unhoused people to collect testimonies and interviews for outward communications

Create and recruit a speakers bureau of currently and formerly unhoused people to support public education efforts. Manage and track payments and hours for speakers.

Book speaking gigs with neighborhood groups, political clubs, religious groups and coalitions to give updates on the measure, and possibly seek endorsements.

Assist in staffing the Our City Our Home Campaign Steering Committee.

Create social media content, brochures and other work product describing the successes of the measure.

Minimum Qualifications

Computer literate.

Must work well with a diverse population.

Experience with social media content management.

Ability to coordinate several activities simultaneously

Strong commitment to Social Justice

People of color and those with lived experience of homelessness encouraged to apply.
