Job Title: Music Mentor

Organization: Human Writes Music Group

Location: Bay Area (In-person preferred; hybrid options available)

Compensation: $100/week for 2 hours; $150 for a 3-hour paid training.

About Us:

Human Writes Music Group is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing emotional support and creative structure to formerly incarcerated individuals. Through music, mentorship, and community, we aim to support healing, reentry, and personal empowerment.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a compassionate, experienced Music Mentor to help guide participants through an 8-week music program. In this role, you will work one-on-one with a participant to help them develop, structure, and complete a personal music project—ranging from songwriting to recording and preparing for release.

This is more than a technical role—it’s about supporting transformation, offering guidance, and helping someone use their voice as they navigate reentry into society.

Responsibilities:

Meet weekly with your assigned participant (2 hours per week)

Offer creative, technical, and emotional support throughout the project

Help shape their music project (album, EP, or single) from start to finish

Encourage accountability, consistency, and personal growth through music

Attend one 3-hour paid training session before the program begins

Qualifications:

Experience working with formerly incarcerated individuals or within reentry spaces

A strong understanding of music production, songwriting, or audio engineering

Proven experience developing and completing personal music projects (albums, EPs, mixtapes, etc.)

Patience, empathy, and strong communication skills

Reliability and commitment to the full 8-week timeline

Time Commitment:

2 hours per week for 8 weeks ($100/week)

One 3-hour paid training before the program ($150)

To Apply:

Email us with a short introduction, your resume (if available), and links to your music or past work. We especially encourage applications from formerly incarcerated musicians and those with lived experience in the system.
