Position: Major Gifts Manager

Reports to: Director of Development

Status: Full-time, non-exempt

Salary: $85,000 - $95,000

Organization Description

Food For Thought (FFT) is a nonprofit that provides comprehensive nutrition services to people in Sonoma County affected by serious medical conditions. Our services include weekly groceries, prepared meals, vitamins and supplements, and nutrition education. We are located in Forestville in a beautiful building surrounded by organic gardens. FFT operates with a staff of 30 and 600 volunteers. Job Summary

The Major Gifts Manager (MGM) works with the Development Director to develop and fine-tune Food For Thought’s major gift program. The MGM is responsible for managing and cultivating relationships with existing donors and identifying and cultivating major gift prospects. The MGM works with board members and other volunteers to inspire donors and new prospects to secure major gifts for the agency.

Responsibilities

Serve as a primary relationship manager and oversee new donor identification, cultivation, and stewardship of existing donors to increase overall retention and giving levels, and relationship management between donors and others on our board and staff

Help donors accomplish their philanthropic goals and ambitions through meaningful relationships and deeper engagement with Food For Thought

Secure major gifts at the $1,000 and up level with the goal of substantially increasing the number of donors at higher levels of annual giving

Be responsible for leading the planned giving program, using appeal campaigns and other methods to increase participation

Manage systems and software to track and cultivate a portfolio of major gift donors and prospects, including using Salesforce and wealth screening tools

Work with the Development Director and Executive Director to set goals

Create and implement moves management plans, and track the progress of specific metrics

Make direct, face-to-face solicitations, and assist the board and other staff with their solicitations

Acknowledge major donors through public and private recognition, including events

Stay current with best practices by following philanthropic shifts and trends

Requirements

A passion for fundraising and a true people person with an outgoing personality

Reside locally, ideally in Sonoma County, and have direct experience and familiarity with local fundraising and philanthropy

At least 3-5 years of direct nonprofit fundraising experience with a proven history of securing large individual and major gifts

Ability to make donors feel valued by being sensitive to their needs

Highly proficient using Salesforce, Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, prospect research, and other wealth screening tools

Ability to establish and maintain healthy working relationships throughout the organization and with outside constituencies

Excellent organizational and project management skills, as well as exceptional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills

A dedication and commitment that inspires others and brings people together in a shared vision

Physical Demands and Additional Responsibilities

Light physical demands i.e. spending hours listening and talking; working on a computer and phone; driving to appointments and events; occasionally working long days, nights, and weekends; ability to lift 20 pounds

Benefits

The position includes employer-paid medical, dental, and vision. Food For Thought provides a 403b retirement account with a 5% employer-paid contribution. Approximately 13 paid holidays per year as well as 12 sick and vacation time starting at 10 days.
