RotaCare San Rafael Free Medical Clinic

DEVELOPMENT MANAGER – (.4 FTE)

RotaCare Bay Area (RBA) is a volunteer alliance of medical professionals, organizations and community members dedicated to providing free primary, quality healthcare services to uninsured families and individuals with limited ability to pay for medical care. We are a volunteer driven organization supported primarily through locally based philanthropy. RBA’s network of 10 free medical clinics is in six counties throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and Central Coast.

POSITION: Part-time fundraising position focused on grant writing and donor recruitment and retention. The Development Manager will work closely with RBA and the Clinic Advisory Council to advance RBA’s mission as well as participate in program/strategic planning, evaluation, and fund development activities.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Development Manager will focus on maintaining and increasing annual contributions from existing institutional sources, businesses and individuals and developing new sources for funding. The position will be responsible for researching, developing, preparing, and writing all the organization’s Marin County focused grants, and for other responsibilities related to fundraising, cultivation, and community engagement for the San Rafael Clinic. The minimum fundraising expectation will be the amount necessary to balance the annual budget for the San Rafael Clinic. The incumbent must be a driven self-starter who is highly organized, able to juggle multiple priorities at the same time.

This is a non-exempt position reporting to the RBA CEO, with guidance provided by the RotaCare San Rafael Advisory Council and its Development Committee. As the RotaCare Bay Area central office is located in the South Bay, there is an option to work remotely, with occasional travel required. Given the distance to RBA headquarters, there will be an effort to use technology and to coordinate meetings to minimize travel time. Residency in the San Francisco Bay Area required This position is for an unspecified duration and constitutes “at will” employment.

EXPECTATIONS: 16 hours per week with a flexible schedule based on meetings and tasks. Adherence to the California wage and hour regulations for nonexempt workers so as not to incur unnecessary overtime is required.

OFFICE HOURS: Option to work remotely with requirements for attendance at local meetings in Marin and meetings at the RBA headquarters when necessary for training and supervision where other technology or other arrangements are not possible. Meet with your supervisor remotely or in person monthly.

Attend the San Rafael Advisory Council (SRAC) Meetings and the SRAC’s Development Committee Meetings, and report on the progress of the tasks and expectations as set forth by the SRAC Development Committee and in conjunction with the RBA Development Director.

FUNDRAISING RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintain and increase funding from the existing institutional supporters, while sustaining and expanding donations from businesses and from individuals and families.

Develop and submit Marin County focused grants to appropriate foundations and businesses, including grant budgets, work-plans, timelines, and all grant related documents.

Develop internal timelines and tracking systems to ensure that all materials required by funding sources are reviewed and submitted by the appropriate deadlines and reviewed by the appropriate individuals at RBA.

Work closely with the San Rafael Advisory Council, SRAC Development Committee and RBA to manage the Marin County Development program and to and identify new funding opportunities.

Build and grow a network of relationships that support program-related development opportunities.

Develop and implement a plan to acquire new donors to the San Rafael Clinic with particular emphasis on local businesses, individuals, and families. This plan should include the use of small, informational, and educational gatherings such as Donor Hosted Events and the use of social media.

With the SRAC Development Committee, provide RC-BA with programmatic and content input for funding proposals to regional and national sources, to which the San Rafael Clinic lacks access.

DONOR STEWARDSHIP & CULTIVATION:

Create and implement a plan for stewarding and cultivating existing donors, with specific activities geared to donor acknowledgment, recognition, education, engagement, and involvement.

EXPOSURE & PUBLIC RELATIONS:

Create general exposure for the San Rafael clinic throughout the community, including clinic tours.

Set up and coordinate speaking engagements for the Advisory Council Chairperson, his/her designees, and the RBA leaders to promote the clinic locally to rotary clubs, religious and civic groups.

As part of the Volunteer Dinner Committee, facilitate the planning, organization, and event logistics; ensuring that all donors are invited and appropriately recognized at this annual event.

Provide Development Director with updated and accurate information about RotaCare San Rafael patients and services for newsletters, the San Rafael Clinic page of the website, Facebook, and Twitter

Write, produce and mail 1 or 2 Annual Appeal Letters per year

Provide content to for issues of RotaCare San Rafael newsletters. Usually, 1 per year.

Maintain and increase mailing and email contacts among San Rafael Clinic constituents/donors

Communicate patient stories to donors

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s Degree in a related field

Minimum of two years of directly related development experience,

Familiarity with Marin County specific funding desirable.

Demonstrated capacity to deliver high quality, winning proposals to secure funding.

Substantial end-to-end experience in the grant process, as well as a sound track record in proposal writing, thus being able to review and write complex proposals from start to finish. Technical experience in the area of access to health for vulnerable populations is strongly preferred.

Significant and relevant experience forming partnerships with other like-minded organizations to pursue funding, including partnering as a sub-grantee.

Experience readying an organization to receive funding.

Programmatic understanding of working with vulnerable populations.

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Self-starter, who can form connections and partnerships and drive a new project from start to finish.

Strong organizational and planning skills with the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines drive a project from start to finish, and work independently to accomplish a goal.

Excellent skills in analyzing new opportunities; RFA’s and RFP’s.

Ability to work collaboratively in teams, participate in cross-departmental planning and work with a diverse group of stakeholders.

Ability to work successfully on deadline-driven projects with large cross-cultural and geographically diverse teams.

Impeccable attention to detail while overseeing multiple projects and grants simultaneously.

Excellent customer service skills and follow-up.

Excellent cross-cultural, interpersonal communication and writing skills.

Excellent computer skills, including and advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.

SALARY & BENEFITS

$25-35 per hour DOE at .4 FTE (16 hours/week) position. This is a non-benefited position.
