Title: Chief Operating Officer

Regular Full Time: 40 hrs./week: Monday – Friday

Salary Range: $185,000 - $200,000 DOE

Reports To: Co-CEOs

Start Date: July 1, 2024

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, or a related field. Master’s degree or Certificate in Nonprofit Management preferred.

Minimum of 5 years of experience managing staff and/or leading teams/projects

Experience managing various operational departments such as facilities, safety, HR, and I.T. in a nonprofit or similar environment is a plus.

Experience managing attorneys, brokers, and consultants is a plus.

Strong knowledge of tenant's rights and California employment law.

Demonstrated ability to lead from values and foster a positive, inclusive organizational culture.

Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire diverse teams and stakeholders.

Proven track record of successfully managing complex projects and driving organizational change.

Deep commitment to the mission and values of Homeward Bound, particularly equity, kindness, and innovation.

Strong understanding that leadership means service and operations means creating robust systems that allow staff to do their jobs safely and more efficiently.

Major Responsibilities:

1. Leadership and Supervision:

Provide strategic leadership and direction to five direct reports: the Director of Property Management, the Director of People and Culture, the Director of Data Analysis, the Director of HUD Programs, and the Director of Information Technology (I.T.).

Conduct regular weekly supervisions and foster professional development for department directors.

2. Operational Oversight:

Oversee the operations of various departments including facilities, safety, human resources, and information technology to ensure they function seamlessly and support organizational goals.

Develop and implement operational strategies that enhance efficiency, effectiveness, and innovation across the organization.

3. Compliance and Policy Development:

Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and policies, particularly those related to HUD programs and other funding sources.

Oversee HUD reporting and audit.

In close coordination with the Co-CEOs and Chief Program Officer, develop and update operational policies and procedures to ensure compliance with current laws and regulations.

4. Data Analysis and Reporting:

Analyze operational data and performance metrics to identify areas for improvement and develop action plans accordingly.

Generate regular reports on operational metrics and key performance indicators for leadership evaluation.

5. Budget Management:

Develop and manage the operational budget, ensuring financial sustainability and accountability.

Oversee the allocation of resources and monitor expenditures to ensure cost-effective operations.

6. Community Engagement:

Represent Homeward Bound in various forums, building strong relationships with stakeholders, partners, and the community.

Actively contributes to fostering a positive and inclusive organizational culture.

7. Liaison Duties:

Serve as the primary liaison to eviction attorneys, employment attorneys, insurance advisors, and insurance brokers, ensuring effective communication and collaboration to address legal and insurance matters.

$185K - $200K annually with a competitive benefits package which includes 100% employer paid medical and dental insurance, 4 weeks accrued vacation, and access to a 403b retirement plan. This range considers the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure, and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. Salary and hourly rate offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications.
