All Souls Episcopal Parish in Berkeley, CA seeks a part-time Associate for Welcome & Kinship to join our vibrant, Christ-centered community—one that is open and progressive in our approach to faith and social issues, while rooted in the ancient Anglican tradition. Position Summary
The Associate for Welcome & Kinship plays a vital role in creating an inclusive and connected church community. The role will focus on greeting newcomers, assisting the ministry leaders advance their work, and incorporate new members into the life of the parish. The Associate supports regular Sunday services, seasonal celebrations, and occasional community gatherings. This is a part-time position which will average 20-23 hours per week and report to the Rector.
Key Responsibilities
● Coordinate with Welcome Team, Ushers, and Greeters to create a warm, inviting atmosphere for newcomers
● Maintain and further systems to track newcomer information, parishioner interests, and ministry opportunities
● Conduct one-on-one meetings with new members to help discern their gifts and find their place at All Souls
● Oversee the new member process, including the newcomer receptions classes
● Collaborate with Communications Teams to develop effective messaging and invitation strategies
● Assist ministry leaders in strategic recruitment and placement of volunteers based on gifts and interests
● Resourcing ministry teams with best practices for team development: charters, agendas for meetings, practices of Scripture and prayer, effective transition of leadership
● Maintain regular communication with ministry leaders to provide support and guidance
● Oversee incorporating new members into the life of the parish
● Launch and maintain small groups and affinity groups
● Strengthen existing relationship networks within the parish
● Collaborate with the Parish Life and Hospitality Teams on church events (Advent Festival, Mardi Gras, Parish Picnic, Big Sur Camping, Parish Retreat among others)
● Support intergenerational ministry initiatives, especially with children, youth, and families
Qualifications and Desired Experience
● High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor's degree preferred
● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
● Experience participating in faith-based community is preferred
● Strong team builder and able to work collaboratively with staff
● Active Christian faith practice and openness to supporting diverse faith journeys
● Proficiency in computer skills and demonstrated ability to quickly learn a variety of digital systems
● Eager to collaborate with various committees and use critical thinking skills
Salary and Benefits:
● Position is hourly, non-exempt.
● Annual Compensation: $45,000
